Hope this is not a repeat thread, looking to get myself a selection of open-ended feeders and wandered what the best option is, either one of the main tackle suppliers you find in shops or are there any one man bands that offer a good service (which i would prefer ) thanks jon
 
Make your own Jonathan, it's a simple process. Bit of lead sheet folded round a bit of tubing with some powergum and a swivel.
 
got some mesh and lead sheet, and had a go making some feeders, but I'm afraid they look a bit ugly,they seem a bit bulky when i make the 5 and 6oz or do i need to buy some proper lead moulds for the strap on weights . jon
 
The best I have used are the NISA feeders. I used several types on the Wye and had various problems with tangles and twists but when I went in Woodys at Hereford I got the NISA feeders and have had no more problems. The only issue may be availiability - I have also bought them around London but not all tackle shops stock them.
 
They don't have to look pretty Jonathan, as long as they don't damage the line their fine. There are lead moulds that will make the dead cow type lead or watchstrap but there rare to find. I think there's a guy on eBay who sells them. You can make your own from a hard wood with a router. I generally find it easier to fold some lead around a 35mm film case or hair roller though as you can add or deduct extra weight.
 
Take a squint at Dragon Tackles weirpool feeders. At a quid (£1) each they have served me OK. They used to do one called Pellet Feeder which has one end closed and is like a small basket with smaller holes, I particularly liked that version but it seems to have been discontinued. Weight range on the weirpool feeders is 1-5oz.Carriage charges can be an issue so I tend to collect some when I'm working near one of their shops....Barbus Pool Feeders - Dragon Carp Direct. :).
 
I do find it strange that with the vast range of tackle Drennan has produced over the years for the dedicated river angler, he is yet to introduce a feeder with a capacity greater than 2 1/2oz!
Other than the Korum range I think most people will struggle to get a feeder in a variety of sizes freely available without going to independent sources. I carry a range of Korum ones tho I have experienced several parting company, weight from cage, some brand new and on the first lob!
 
One of the reasons I use the Korum feeders as opposed to the wire or plastic mesh types is I often use small cubes of meat in the feeder and it gets stuck in the mesh types.

It's more that the cubes of the meat gets caught in the mesh, even if packed loosely. With the smooth sides of the Korum this isn't a problem :)

drennan gripmesh - theyre all 1oz, and cheap. A selection of dead cows to add to suit. Nice and compact - they work for me. But the korums are good, albeit a bit exepnsive.
