Sussex ouse

Hello all, Thanks for the add ... new member here. for the last 4 decades. I have been fishing on the western Rother and river Arun and with a bit of trout fishing on the meon a few years back. But now fancy a bit of a change. I have now got access to quite a bit of the sussex ouse ( I think about 12 miles which is both tidal and non tidal ) that I can fish, so I am are after a bit of info. I obviously wouldn’t ask for anyones specific marks and I know that the Barbel are not prolific on this river ( But there again, I am used to that on the western rother ) I am just asking for a bit of advice, If I am going to try and track down the odd barbel and maybe some chub on the sussex ouse, am I better off to start on the tidal section or the non tidal section above the mills, should I try and find deep pools, gravel runs and weir pools . any help would be greatly received, as I am not quite sure where to start on this river and as I don’t feel like I have another 20 years to learn a new river :) , but am willing to put a lot of effort in with the time I have left.

Thanks for reading Steve.

Hi Steve
I belong to 2 clubs that have fishing rights on the Sussex Ouse.
Personally I think you stand a better chance than on the Rother /Arun, and I would start on the non tidal section.
There are decent barbel but like anywhere else, you have to find them.
Send me a pm … happy to have a chat.
