Stolen Gear

Senior Member
Hello gents

This is a bit of a long shot, but just in case ...

I went out to my garage yesterday to find some thieving scumbag had jimmied the lock and made it away with a load of my gear, stuff I've built up over many, many years fishing. I fish in the Colne Valley so I'm sure whoever nicked this stuff is going to find it easy to offload without advertising or using ebay, but just in case this list suddenly appears in your life as 'an offer too good to be true', or you spot a job lot on ebay matching this description (I'll be looking myself, obviously) please let me know!

2 x Haglofs Combi green rucksack seat (one filled with pike spinning gear - traces and a box of lures, Baker unhooking tool, unhooking glove)
1 x Shimano Stradic 4000 (the newer type with the gold spool)
1 x Masterline Bob James 1.25tc travel barbel rod, green blank, in six sections, in green cordura tube
2 x J W Youngs travel barbel rods - maroon colour blank, six sections, in maroon cordura tube
2 x Shimano STC 2.75lb travel carp rods (7 sections in a hard cordura tube)
2 x Terry Hearn 2lb 9oz Carp Rods
2 x Harrison Specialist No 3 2lb tc rods
1 x Harrison 9ft stalker rod, made by Vic Gibson
2 x Nash Hooligan 11 foot 1.75lb tc carp rods
3 x Steve Neville buzzers (black with white latching light) in olive green cases with black velcro fastners
2 gardner bug indicators (white)
Fox short bank sticks and buzz bars (one of them araldited back in place!)
3 x Shimano 3500b reels, loaded with clear 12lb big game line
2 x Shimano 5000 gte baitrunners loaded with 10lb big game line
1 x Shimano stradic x 400 gtm (old style with silver spool) loaded with clear 6lb big game line
1 fully loaded Nash Rig n Bits pouch with assorted terminal tackle
1 greys 6 rod holdall
1 pair daiwa waders, green leg/chest parts, brown boots (size 11)
1 x Trakker two part Winter suit, Olive Green 2 XL
2 x old school 'Optonic' indicators in a Camo zip case with 2 x blue gardner bug indicators
1 x Daiwa Infinity Overnight session brolly

Someone's going to get a lot in their stocking this Christmas, but sadly, at my expense.

Cheers guys - and if you ever thought twice about sticking an extra lock on your garage or tackle shed, take my advice, put one on today!

Thanks

Indeed, Dave. Pretty sure I'll never see any of it again.

Thank god they were in too much of a rush to notice my barbel gear. they walked straight past the small quiver I keep right by the door. So I'll still get out over xmas. But carping has gone for a burton for the time being.

I feel for you David, had some of mine nicked once.

These theiving, scum bag, low life tosspots need hanging up by their sensitive bits for a day or ten, and then indelibly marked on the face so they can be recognised anywhere. Unless someone can come up with something really unpleasant to do to them. Sh!t for brains barstewards.

Cheers, Dave.

Sorry to hear the bad news David. Had most of my gear nicked about 10 months ago from my garage, so I know how you feel. Gutted for you.

David,

What can i say such sickening news! The scumbags need a good slapping...It takes a long time to put this tackle together only for such a thing like this to happen.....I feel for you David.

Condolonces have been said by many others.

One obvious comment, whoever took the stuff knew that it was there. Think back, it just might yield a clue, was it on show when you had the door open or has work been done for you? Are there any pubs in the area where you could put the word about that you are looking for some fishing gear as a Xmas present for a relative whose just started fishing, don't say that you were the victim. (Barman often have good info, they hear a lot). You'll have to become a regular at the pub for a while and buy the barman a drink or two, but look upon it as an investment.

People on here might scoff, but the pub route was exactly how I found out who burgled my house many, many years ago. Another friend of mine looked around a car boot sale and found some of his burgled stuff.

The very fact that they went straight for the carp kit implies that they possibly saw it via the open doors on some previous occasion, and the barbel kit was not seen as it was tucked out of the way. Also implies they used torches. Not Earth shattering thoughts, but might help build up a picture. I suspect that the people who took the kit won't be brain surgeons and will make mistakes, you just need a break. It is possible that you might recover the stuff, but you'll have to put the effort in and still be prepared to fail.

Up and over garage doors are the easiest things in the world to get into. Mine was broken into years ago, they took all my tools and just for spite broke the ignition keys off in the lock of two motorbikes which were stored in there. The police actually caught them and I went to the court, they were local lads and got away with a slap on the wrist. But as they say, every dog has his day and revenge is a dish best served cold, my day came about a year later a couple of days before I moved away from the area. My garage today has got a security bar across the inside which drops into brackets on the door and on the frame and prevents it opening even if the silly little spring loaded bolt is jimmied.

Must be devastating for you Dave. I have a solid roller door which locks into the frame on both side when locked so fairly sturdy and live in a cul de sac so very few people pass by. Never mind the dog, it's my wife they want to watch out for :p

Thanks for the commiserations guys. It's appreciated. I lost some much loved and well-used rods there.

As for the tips - Jim, these are all good points. I have my suspicions but it is difficult to ever point the finger without evidence. Basically we have a house at the end of our terrace which has recently been sold and the new owners have the builders in at the moment. The work is being done before they actually move in. There have been a few 'teams' in and out over the past few weeks and one of them parked their van for three days right outside the front of my garage. I was fine with it since I never use it for my vehicle and they asked politely enough. Coincidence that all this gear went after they had finished their last day of work? Possibly ... but I'll never know for sure.

The silly thing is that I have a very strong lock on the roll up metal front door of the garage but not such good quality ones on the side access door which you can walk through from my garden. It was this side door that they got through.

I have it locked like fort knox now, and a thicker blind over the window on the side door.

You live and learn, I guess.

I'm trying to be philosophical about it. (Although if I ever did meet who did it, I would not be channelling Confucious, I think it's fair to say).

Thanks again guys.
