On a look for some light weight bib and brace for spring summer.Looked at the korum ones but just want the bib and brace only not the jacket.

Hi Dean ,
I have the shimano tribal Bib and brace , very light and airy , shower proof . I paid about £45.00 from ebay .well worh it ! The other alternative which i have a couple of pairs of are army issue goretex which i was given by a friend , you can buy them from military surplus shops .

Dean, have you considered breathable waders? quite versatile in summer, and if you ever did need to get in the river the option is there.

It may be worth a look at the Prologic Max 1 Waterproof Salopettes, Climax Tackle are doing them for £39.99.

Cheers

I have the shimano ones - definitley very lightweight and airy altho i only used them in the winter with some layers underneath.

These look particularly fetching, Deano . You might be able to pick up a pair from here.

You'll need something decent to protect you from all that bootlace slime ;)

Ebay for camo/army issue overtrousers with braces. The German Flecktarn Goretex ones are superb for the price. These are high-waisted as opposed to being a proper bib but mine have been a godsend. If you're thinking spring/summer they need to be breathable (as Goretex is).

Dean,

Although not exactly bib and brace, the Greys GRXi trousers I have are wicked and very waterproof, come higher at the back and have braces............not cheap though!!

In terms of breathability, has anyone bettered goretex?

PS The zipped lower leg is great when putting on over boots

I have found Goretex to be superb.... it's waterproof qualities and breathability are imo unbeatable. However, the Gortex fabric itself is an inner membrane, the outer part of the garment being standard waterproofed material.

The downside of this is that when the garment ages and gets a little mucky, the outer fabric looses it's 'beading' properties and absorbs water like a sponge. You will stay dry inside, because the moisture will not pass the gortex barrier. However, the wet outer frabic puts an end to the breathability of the garment...and we know what happens then....

Having said all that, I have still not found a fabric which is better, or at least not better long term. The only answer is to keep cleaning and re-proofing your goretex garment's outer skin :D

Cheers, Dave.
