spinning reel

Now the close season is nearly upon us, i am looking forward to next season already. I aim to try for some pike on lures /spinners, am uncertain as to the need for a specialist spinning reel to combine with a 9ft spinning rod or just go with a smallish fixed spool. Price £40-50 and do i use braid or mono. Advice welcome.

Shimano exage 4000 and powerpro 30lb. good combo. could get away with any 4000/5000 size baitrunner/normal reel though.

consideration of the weight of the reel is important, you don,t need a large line capacity, so think small, you will be holding it all day, and even a 5000 size baitrunner type reel will feel heavy after a while. Multipliers are a very good option, easy to use and much lighter.

Modern multipliers are the dogs danglers, and not the bird's nest creators of my youth! You only need twenty minutes (or less) with someone who uses them regularly and you're sorted.
