A few months ago I was having an email chat with Paul 4, and we were discussing how our fishing was going. Due to general life we had both not done that much fishing over the past year, but one thing that seemed to be a common experience for both of us was a feeling that something was wrong.
I can only describe what I felt as a deadness in the water. I have been playing around using a whip (pole) recently and been fishing for roach and perch and generally anything, good fun and gives one something to do when things are slow, but even in waters where a year ago they were bubbling with small fish, it was all very dead. On many occassion I would only get one nibble on the whip and if lucky it may translate into a small perch or roach, but as for the big ones..............nada!
The rivers seemed marginally better, but still waters were really tough even though felt I was fishing reasonablly.
I seem to remember the whole thing started for me at the onset of the wet summers a couple of years ago and things have got progressively worse since then. Now I am not the best fisherman, but even my standards were typically higher than I have achieved in the past year!
I wonder what 2010 holds?
