Something not quite right?

A few months ago I was having an email chat with Paul 4, and we were discussing how our fishing was going. Due to general life we had both not done that much fishing over the past year, but one thing that seemed to be a common experience for both of us was a feeling that something was wrong.

I can only describe what I felt as a deadness in the water. I have been playing around using a whip (pole) recently and been fishing for roach and perch and generally anything, good fun and gives one something to do when things are slow, but even in waters where a year ago they were bubbling with small fish, it was all very dead. On many occassion I would only get one nibble on the whip and if lucky it may translate into a small perch or roach, but as for the big ones..............nada!

The rivers seemed marginally better, but still waters were really tough even though felt I was fishing reasonablly.

I seem to remember the whole thing started for me at the onset of the wet summers a couple of years ago and things have got progressively worse since then. Now I am not the best fisherman, but even my standards were typically higher than I have achieved in the past year!

I wonder what 2010 holds?

Hi Chris, this is being discussed below at some length under the "44.5F last night thread". Many are feeling the same. Please have a read and give us an opinion.
regards
Phil

An interesting way of putting it Chris, until I read your post it hadn't occurred to me that there really is a bad "feeling" right now. I noticed it first, strangely enough, in France in October 2008 when 3 of us fished a week on a normally very prolific lake for just 3 fish. We only saw about 2 roll as well and this is on a 3 acre water where usually at least 3 or 4 fish are moving at any time you look at the waters surface. I left that lake convinced nearly all the fish were dead and hadn't been replaced but events since make me wonder.

Whoops, not read the boards that much recently!
Thanks Phil but I had thought that thread was discussing the weather from the header-

I had better have a look.
