Hi Rich.
As I'm going to have to do a fair bit more lake fishing I'm looking at rods that will be ok for decent tench, but will handle 20lb plus carp if needed. Also may use for lower Severn Zander fishing, popping out 3 oz leads with small roach or bleak.
I've got the powemesh 2.25 s that I've used before, happy with for Z and the 2lb torrix for the tench, but some of the lakes now will hold bigger carp than before.
I have had a number of carp over 35 on my 1.75 torrix in the past, but the new waters will be far more irregular with islands etc.
I'm asking really will I note much difference 2lb torrix vv 2.25lb Ch3?
Thoughts?
Hi Graham
I have both 2lb Torrix and C3
Both fantastic blanks, both will handle big carp. Torrix as you know is quite sensitive in the tip with loads of power lower in the blank.
Using barbel fishing scenarios, I use 2lb Torrix in Autumn /now on modest sized rivers with a bit of water in and say 3oz leads or feeders
I also use them for heavy maggot feeders when barbel are on the cards but equally it could be a big chub or perch and that relatively sensitive tip is nice for spotting bites, and I haven't suffered with hook pulls on big perch - it works for me and a lovely rod to use.
When I come to the Wye or the Severn and I need to punch a bigger loaded feeder(4-5oz) as far as I can get it, I always use the C3 which has a stiffer tip but it punches a bait a good way but bends through the blank making it still lovely to play modest fish on. I wouldn't use a 2lb Torrix for this task.
As the saying goes it would land any barbel that swims, I don't do carp fishing but I would have no qualms using a C3 for catching big pike .
But for catching Zs as you describe it will muller it, only thing is they are rung for barbel fishing so the eyes can be small for stop knots if you were float ledgering.
They are very different rods, I think Dave Lumb has used the C3 for PVA bag/ big method feeder fishing if you check his website
Also as a utilty rod for the Wye with a bit of water on, I don't think there will be a better rod than the C3?
