Been using some 9ft rods for my carping this year and what a a difference! Cant believe how much better it is playing fish and generally using them for margin work, got to think why im not using them for close in barbelling, they are the wychwood extricators and although rated at 2 and 1/4 lb tc they are quite soft and with a lovely action and wouldnt hesitate using them for barbel, makes you wonder why we get so entrenched into thinking only 12 ft will do,
 
Chris, I,ve been using a 9' abu equalizer rod for my tench fishing during the close season, and i know where your coming from. It doesn,t state a test curve on the rod, but i,d guess its only about a 1lb 1/4. Great fun. :)
