Shimano xr 5000

Does anyone have this reel and how does it compare in size to the 4000?
Is it just spool depth or is the spool a larger diameter? Thanks.

Spool diameter steps up incrementally from 3000 to 4000 to 5000.

3000 is 46.5mm
4000 is 51mm
5000 is 54mm

The 3000 body and rotor is significantly smaller than 4000 and 5000. The bodies of the 4000 and 5000 appear to be the same size, but I've not actally measured them. I'd assume that the rotors are fractioally different, but I've not checked. However, I seem to recall trying to swap spools between reels and them not fitting properly.

In truth, when there's only 5g weight difference between 4000 and 5000, I'm not sure why they bothered with the 4000. I didn't bother initially, but I found one at a bargain price so gave it a whirl. I've ended up using the 5000 on 17' rods, the 4000 on 15'ers and the 3000 on 11-14' rods.

I rushed in buying the 4000 and should of got the 5000 with the wider spool with only 5g difference, but after use much prefer my Ar-c 4000 aero and heavier 4000 fa.
