Satisfied?

A while back we had a pretty boring board, with people whingeing about the number of 'What rod/reel/line' type threads (Not that I personally have any objection to that type of thread at all). However, eventually, we even ran out of them, with the board almost static for days on end, with very few post's, let alone new threads.

Then...we had a rash of otter related threads. we had more new threads, posts, discussions and general excitement than we have seen for a very long time, with threads running to huge lengths. Great stuff.

Then the moans started coming in again...some I suspect from the same people who had whinged about the other thread contents. So...Andy pulled a couple of threads (I have no idea why, I went out, came back, and they were gone)... I assume then that for now the moaners have won.

So...take a look at the board now...satisfied? Yawn :D (with apologies to those posting these threads, but you know what I mean :D)

Cheers, Dave.

if you can think of some fresh barbel related threads, I'm game.
this is a thread about threads...lol

With folk ever more reluctant to discuss where's and even why's, all that is left to discuss is which's and whinges..?

Or is just that we know too much so there is nothing else left to discuss?

Personally I don't think threads should be pulled/deleted without explanation.
This is generally a grown man's site, I'm not aware of any under 18's on here.
Were there law suits pending re the naughty otter threads?

dont go there chris, rules are made with good reason, its a great fishing site a helluva lot better than most

Well I posted a thread very tongue in cheek,re Otters ,aimed as a bit of light hearted humour,Otter Fishing World ,and that got pulled.

If humerous, harmless stuff gets pulled ,then to hell with other stuff.

There is little point contributing to a site that takes itself so seriously, and no wonder most folk just lurk, and a few folk seem to spend all there time on here .

Pons(and I am just off fishing for five days ,thank goodness )

As far as i am aware, and something that has served me well; is there is no such thing as a stupid question....if your not sure and need advice, ASK. Shame on those who pull them down.

Sometimes we have to act in the best interests of the site regardless of whether rules are broken or not.

A forum with the 6 most current threads all ‘discussing’ the same thing is simply nuts. Surely it’s obvious that as board owners/moderators we want visitors to experience something that presents itself as professional?

I’ll all for a bit of humour but the threads we removed were hardly world class in the laughter department!

The reason for the lack of explanation was that I didn’t want yet another thread explaining where the other otter threads had gone!

If things go quiet on the forum for a few days, that’s fine. There will be times when things dry up for a bit, that’s life…Personally, I'm more than happy to see the 'what landing net handle' threads, it's how I get to know about new products that come on the market.

I hope this makes sense.

Regards,

Andy

My perspective is that the Mods got their fingers burned on the old site, largely because it wasn't sufficiently moderated when threads got out of hand, this "new" site is slightly over-moderated imo, as the major hooligans didn't join up (or weren't allowed to), thus the current situation.

To be fair, they did warn us this was going to be the case, so no complaints on that count.

Ticks all the answer boxes for me Andy, and I appreciate your taking the trouble to explain...as has been said, there are some who wouldn't have bothered. Like you (as said in starter post) I have absolutely no objection to the 'what' style threads either, haveing gained valuable knowledge from them in the past. It is the snipers that wind me up...but, no matter, it was probably unworthy of me to have commented anyway.

Incidentally, I have no issues with Pons's post either...that was merely humourous, and as you may have noticed, I am all for that :D I do hope I have not inadvertently upset him. Like I say, I guess I should have engaged brain before opening gob

Cheers, Dave.

You will be Banned David........

Dave, that's an amazing back-track, you nearly tripped over there. :D
Must say I wasn't around to see the development of either of those threads, but it would have been helpful to see/know just what broke the camels back, as up to the last post I had read, there was nothing what I would consider offensive.
Oops, ignore irrelevant parts of this post, just scrolled back.
But obviously these critters are high on the agenda just at the minute, occupying many parts of our land................ and brains. ;0)

Hi Chris,

Actually, no back-track at all. Like you, I had no idea what had happened...I wasn't around either...but I wanted to know, and Andy has explained...and I accept that completely. I also wished to apologise to a member whom I respect, as I had inadvertantly upset him. Had I thought before posting, I would have realised my wording was virtually guaranteed to make him think (quite wrongly) that my comments were aimed at him...now he knows.

Beyond that, I certainly take nothing back that has been said about the irresponsible way that otters have been introduced, at a time when many of our rivers were absolutely in no state to receive them.....OK?

Cheers, Dave.

Hey Chris, how's the season going for thee? Would be good to meet up again sometime.

Whatto Chris,
Bit mixed truthfully, having a hard time on the river carping lately, barbel not so bad.
Yes ,would like that ,bit of chubbing or perching down your way ,you reckon ?
Very best regards,
Pons
