Roving Net ?

have a look at the dinsmore "d" shaped net from "go outdoors" 7.00 a bargain too !:)

Dave,

I looked at the Greys one last week too and it's rubbish, you cannot lock the net closed so you cannot have a lanyard over your should as it just slides out, does not feel like it would last very long, quite soft aluminium and lost of plastic..

Splash the cash and get the Mclean weigh net, quality product, built in scales, easy to carry and use, will handle any barbel swimming, also pike etc.Get the salmon size, the smaller one is probably just not big enough, especially for resting fish after catching, and it only weighs 1kg.

Just looked at these Peter.
Is the handle long enough and strong enough?
The only thing that worries me is that if anything goes wrong with the handle you cann't just stick another one on the net.
Rich.

Looks like you get a 10% discount if you buy the salmon net suggested by Ian and Peter from Sportfish this month, just feed in the code "JULY" at checkout :)

Cheers, Dave.

Before anyone spend 80 quid on a Mclean weigh net, I repeat, I simply had a look at it in the shop, opened it, closed it, etc........... It looks good quality but NO TEST DRIVE TOOK PLACE and I am not giving it a rave review!! Buy at your own risk ;)

I,ve got one and have been using it for salmon, copes easily with pike to high doubles, salmon, big trout etc, I doubt you will get a better built net.
Rich, the handle is long enough for all but high bank situations, its certainly strong enough, unless you do something silly. There are others out there, The Whitlock nets are good, but are really pricy, some of the larger seatrout size collapsable ones will do the job, but none have handles more than around 4ft long. If you need a 6ft plus handle, then forget the hands free carrying nets, just stick with the usual ones.

Yes you can. Davis Tackle still sell the Whitlock nets including the foldover extendable version designed for roving for barbel.

I've had my Whitlock net for nearly 10years. I bought from Davis Tackle and it's still going strong.
A touch of WD 40 on the extendable handle every so often and dry the net out properly.
I'm sure mine will still be good in the next 10 years.
You pay for what you get!
