Rolling Meat Hooks

Looking for a good hook to use when rolling meat, can anyone recommend some that don't cost the earth? Thinking long shank, wide gape with a straight eye.

I know there is a thread on here somewhere but for the life of me i can't find it!

Trevor

Wide gape + long shank = any standard big hook, surely?

With straight eye; Drennan Super Specialist, Carbon Specimen and Specimen hooks, all sell for about £1.10 - £1.40.

Can't haul a bus in but plenty strong enough for barbel.

If your burying it in a huge lump of meat, does it matter what hook you use?

The criteria for me is something..... Sharp and pointy.......

I do normally go for a long(ish) shank, so I can get plenty of wraps of leadwire around it, but that's about it.......

Drennan boilie hook.

If they're good enough for Ray Walton, they're good enough for me.

Mr Garwood must be onto something though, he has a few (more than me).

Sharp and Pointy sounds good to me Steve!

Like the idea of a long shank for the same reason but would like a round bend if at all possible, figured more chance of a hook up?

Cheers

Hi Jeff...It is not quite that simple with these hooks, which are thinner than some others.
Other combination factors in my using these hooks are the 'all thru' rod action, lower test curve, and line/braid strength.
I also bend the barbs right back to a nick, for better penetration and easier unhooking.
Best Regards...Ray

Drennan boilie hooks,

Hi Ray,

As you know, i usually hook mine up the ****, a skill which you have yet to master! They don't half fight though!!!

I know what tou mean about the barbs though.

See you in July...... it seems a long way off at the mo :(.

Regards,
Jeff
