Rod Opinions Please.......

After a reasonably successful winters chubbing on the Severn I have decided that the old Wilson Avon Quiver is well past its sell by date, basically it wrecks line in no time even though a magnifying inspection of the rings reveals no damage......

Anyway, thats by the by. I`m now in the market for a decent 2 piece chub rod. I`ve got a couple of River & Streams which are fine for small streaming but on the Severn I need something with a tad more power.

After a bit of mooching round on here and other sites I`m considering a Drennan Series 7 Specialist 1.25lb 12ft. Has anyone used them and if so, would you recommended them?

Hi Martyn,

Got 2 series 7 rods (12ft carp waggler and 10ft carp feeder) and i really think they are the dogs for the money.

I havent got the series 7 1.25lb specialist, but two friends have and they swear by them. Perfect chub rods in my opinion.

The new Rovex JWs are okay for chub and i think i paid 100 notes for 2 last year. But, the drennans are definitely better rods.

First reply is a very encouraging one, thanks Paul :D:D

I have the 1.5lb version and I use on the Wye in winter for chub and and more than happy with it. Quiver section or avon section both work very well.

Appreciate the input guys, many thanks :D

Think I`ll go for the 1.5lb test one, the Severn can be a powerful beastie in the winter and a little more power in the rod wouldn`t go amiss.

Time to order one!

Another vote for the 1.5 Drennan used mine on middle trent for chubbing and also on stillwaters for roach and tench
