Replacing reel seat?

Ben Cook

Senior Member
Hello chaps I've got a fox duo xs and the reel seat has cracked, nice rod but a real cheap nasty reel seat.Does anyone know roughly what it costs to replace it with something better? Just trying to weigh up if it worth it or to just buy another rod it's only a spare really but still a nice rod. Cheers . Ben

Hi Ben,
Generally the rod would have to be stripped and the reel fitting replaced.
To do the job properly you have the following options:
Try stripping the handle from the back and depending on diameter of the blank try fitting the reel seat from the butt (not my prefered option). You would have to rebuild the handle.
Better (but more expensive) strip the rings and foregrip and replace reel seat (after removal - and this can be tricky if you are not used to it), rewhip the rings and epoxy.

Both would be expensive.
You don't say where the split is - a bodge job (depending on nature and position of the split) would be to try injecting adhesive and clamping up the seat to close the gap.
Hope this helps,

Bob

Hi Ben,

Why not treat yourself to a new rod ? give the man above a call and he will build you a think of true beauty,go on you deserve it.......just dont tell the missus.

Dickie.

Cheers guys! The split is where the top foot of the reel slides in, I might just try glueing it then, as I said it's only a spare rod, think I'd rather put the money towards a new rod! Thanks alot though helped alot.Ben

Just out of interest bob what would it cost to do?

What about contacting the manufacturer? It might be worth an email.

PS. I have the same rod and there's definitely something aesthetically pleasing about it. It looks better than some of my far more expensive rods, and handles fish well.

Yeah it looks fantastic! And as you say it's got a lovely action! Might drop them a email but I've had the rods years now so not crossing my fingers!
