Hi - I have a few Shimano reels that I need to get serviced, 2 x 4000 and 2 x 5000XTEA's, anyone have any recommendations for someone to use?
Thanks

I’ve used Weston developments, and been really happy with their service as they didn’t charge any extra for a small part my reel needed and included it the standard service price. 👌🏻

I've just used FELINDRE for the first time

A mint 5000 GTE, one of a mint pair, decided it would not lift the spool up and down. Should be back with me couple of days.
I was a bit suprised at the cost £49+ that incl postage. However watching a Ytube video on the job it looked difficult with quite a few parts needed.

Appreciate the kind words chaps.
Yeah I’ll help Garry out if he wants it no problem
I have a shimmy 10000XTE that could do with a overhaul Richard, it may be beyond financially sensible to do it though. It actually runs but it doesn't feel right, play where there shouldn't be etc!

Could you take a look?

Richard class act and an engineer by trade....
As was I many years ago. Served my time on lathes, mills, etc and ended up in the precision grinding dept' of a gear, thread and spline scecialist Company. Many years ago now, still fancy getting myself a lathe in the shed for my retirement, perhaps knock a few pods etc up!

There were a few centrepins knocked up in such places back in the day, dinner breaks and night shift saw a few extra quid make it into some pockets.

I had a little metric Myford ml10 in my garage for a lot of years and for its size it was an amazing little lathe. you could take decent cuts and do very accurate work unlike these mini watch makers things.
Coupled up with a 4x6 bandsaw and a vertical slide, there wasn’t much that couldn’t be done on a small to medium scale.

I am a machine tool fitter by trade and a big part of my job was turning, milling & grinding etc. i used to love designing and making all sorts of fishing gear, seatboxes, banksticks, pods, trays, swingers etc.
fishing gear is so much better quality (in most cases!) these days and there isn’t much you cant get so apart from the odd repair or improvement part, i dont or cant be bothered to make anything as the effort involved isnt worth it when you can just go and buy the item.
I used to look at everything in a ‘what can that be used for in my fishing’ way. My stainless & brass bansksticks were indestructible but probably heavier than the rest of my gear combined…my back twinges at the thought of them!
I met Chris Manifold (Aqua Products) through work and enjoyed helping him out with parts etc when he was first designing his bivvies. Very clever guy and i had a few very early home made prototypes to try out. Great days!
