Record Equaling Chub

That is one hell of a fish, seriously incredible :eek::eek::eek::eek:

it looks like what it is unlike the current record which is clearly not!
big beast, who ate all the crayfish...lol

Hell of a good angler Neil, took my local apart quietly with the Barbel a few years ago, held the Perch record until recently and now equals the chub record, which in all honesty should replace the current record as it is a river fish caught in a river...........

Thats what i heard him say also, but ive just tried weighing a similar plastic bag (which i think is what was used to weigh the chub) and i cant get it to register any weight on my Salter or Ron Thomson Digitals or avons. Be interesting to read the fully story when it appears in AT or AM.

One of those wafer thin bags from Tescos weighs 1/4 oz according to my wifes cooking scales ! Like i say i'm not trying to demean this capture in any way but when you are talking about a new record this just seems odd.

Tend to agree with you mate; was it 9-5, or 9-4 and 3/4oz. Silly saying one thing on the video (9-5 incl bag) and claiming another.

As far as I can see, only the press and other people are talking "New Record".

It was weighed on three sets of scales at 9.04(1/2). 9.05, 9.06 respectively. Then the weight of the bag has to be deducted.

Although Andy Nellist (BRFC) was informed and scales sent off to be checked, Neill himself doesn't think it will take the record. It might equal it at best.

It could well be an undisputed new record if it continues its upward weight-gain next season.

It was videoed on one set of scales purely to illustrate that the fish and weighing were genuine and not "tampered" with. It also gives you the added dimensional viewpoint that a 2D photo doesn't to try and forestall all that "holding his arms out" etc knocking that's the norm with big fish pics.

Only on a Barbel Website could you get this kind of pettiness? :(

I do hope you're not accusing me of 'pettiness' Simon,i personally couldn't give a bugger whether it breaks the record or not, i am just a little bemused at the way it was weighed in the video.

Just seen pic in AM and it looks huge , might just be me but it looks bigger than current record , take it that was checked properly at the time ,

Hi, I have been upfront about the weighing process, and was at pains to not represent it as a 'record'. I just stated the facts i.e. it was weighed in a plastic bag at 9lb5oz, and that we couldnt get the bag to register a weight. In hindsight it would have been better to use a sling, not least becuase it makes zeroing easier, but I didnt have one with me at the time, and forgot to ask the others to bring one. I wasn't goign to send them back home or wait for the tackle shop to open!
