Prebaiting

Just wondering what your thoughts and methods of prebaiting are?
There’s a few spots on my local Ouse I know are frequented by a very small number of good sized Barbel, in previous years I would start baiting up 2-3 weeks before opening night with boilies and paste from my usual JBaker mix…and generally just a couple of handfuls of various sizes 3 times a week. However, this year there has been an explosion in small Chub, good signs for the future but not so great if they eat all my bait. I’m pretty sure whatever amount I put in they would scoff it so I’m thinking of sticking in some particles to keep them busy as well as my Barbel bait!… what are your thoughts?

My thoughts are always listen to advice but also, always go with your gut. If thats what you've thought of doing, do it! It’s the only way to learn as all venues are different anyway so what works for one, wont for another. It’s also a great feeling when a plan works and can only improve confidence which breeds success imo. Whatever happens, you’ll learn something and that can only be good!

Put it in with a dropper Alan, do it as the light is dropping and double up on your offerings.
that will then get plenty of time for an elusive GO barbel to find it.

If you bait up regularly and attract loads of fish irrespective of size the barbel will be around. They sense the action of their smaller brethren and will come to investigate. Use a selective bait and you will catch barbel.
