Came across this on another forum and thought should pass it on .


Guys I may be jumping the gun here- but thought it worth publishing.

I'm not sure if I've been suckered or not. There was a post recently about a new company setting up to supply bait and giving away trial packs.

I responded via e-mail and it sounded plausible and professional. I supplied my name and address and a bit about my fishing.

5 days later and my garage has been broken into and I haven't received any bait.

- Whether or not the bait turns up and the whole thing is legit... I just feel a bit of a pillock. For the promise of a free kilo of bait I've given out my home address and some details about fishing trips (when I'm not likely to be home).

If members use other forums- maybe you can pass this experience on- on my behalf
 
If the guy suspected the company he'd registered his details with he could pass the details on to the police. Wouldn't be too hard to trace the IP address of the supposed company. Still thanks for the info Robert and a timely warning, if it looks too good to be true it probably is.
 
Further to the above, I replied to an ad on gumtree for a Hardy rod and was in line to get it. The guy had a contact mobile but the voicemail was full. I contacted him via both my work and home email and was given instructions to pay via a voucher code number to have Parcel Force deliver. Something was amiss and I sent the correspondence to parcelforce who immediately confirmed that it was a case of fraud. Annoyingly, I'd already sent my address for delivery purposes. He'd asked for a suitable time to deliver and I'd said a weekend so that I'd be there to receive and check it. Fortunately my Mother-in-law lives with us and is in the house every day and I'd told him this (adding that it would be no good arriving when she was there as she didn't know one end of a rod from another), which hopefully may put anyone off coming to pay a visit while I'm at work. I'm pleased to say that I didn't fork out a brown penny, but fear others may.
 
hi robert,you are right to bring this to our notice.a cid friend once told me that there are as many break ins in daylight as at night.it is a different world now.never saw these capers when i was a lad.

Trouble is Albert such incidents took a long time to report and those that did were a once weekly list in the local paper Today we have a distorted view that the 'good old days' were better when in reality they were not I suppose.
But the days before the Interweb and TV seem a far nicer era because we just we were not aware of such dastardly deeds, and being 'Gay' was to be Jolly and if you got nabbed by the law you went home with a thick ear.:)
 
Really sorry to hear about the break in, Robert, but might it not be just a coincidence....and nothing to do with bait company?
 
Not me it was something spotted on another forum and thought would pass on , the guy actually states at the end that it may be legit and just a coincidence
 
No mention of either but the question has been asked for more info , so will keep an eye on thread and post if more info comes up
 
sorry to here about your misfortune robert,, but you get nothing for nothing in this world
and even if it was lagit, you will pay for it further up the order, any way i would pass on all details to the local police, thats all you can do, but thank you for letting the forum know, hope you was insured, if not i would be gutted,
