Pike activity

Just wondering what your views are? Was in a swim tonight which is meant to be quite productive however there was pike chasing small fish about all evening it's not huge swim but biggish for the stretch so thought I'd sit it out,being new to barbel fishing I was wondering if pike in the swim have a detrimental effect on sport I know it can in match/pleasure situation, would you move straight away in said situation?
 
I've hand fed pike, barbel and chub with pellets all together in the same swim on three different occasions. They were all grubbing around together for them. When a pike is "switched on" in fish feeding mode it's probably a different matter though...
 
I think Pike in feeding mode definitely put off Barbel/Chub - I've seen a smallish Jack fly after a chub not much smaller that itself before. Also, when Pike are cruising around the Barbel can be hard to draw out of cover to feed in my experience on a small river with not a massive head of Barbel.
 
Barbel are definately more wary when there are Pike in the swim in my experience.

Whether or not, for example, a 10lb Barbel would care at all if a 5lb Pike was next to it I'm not sure. But, I've seen barbel equal to the size of the pike completely stop feeding upon the Pike's arrival.

As Steve says, catch the Pike and move on :)

Cheers for the replies! Unfortunately can't fish for pike on this club ticket you have to attend a teach in for them, fair enough I suppose fish care paramount and all that, think will just move on next time
