Perdurable blank

How is it ,Free Spirit can produce a scratch free blank ( Perdurable finish ) and the likes of Harrison advanced rods can't ??
The Free Spirit "Big Water 2.25 " is £100 more than the Torrix 2lb rod 🤔
Is there really £100 difference ???

Well they are both fishing rods but that's where the 'sameness' ends. They are completely different 'animals'. You might as well throw in Hexagraphs and Rod Thompson rods whilst you're at it.

That’s not strictly true. The difference is free spirit market it and Harrison don’t.
the free spirit “perdurable blank” is as scratch resistant as the Harrison ultra mat blanks. I have both and both will cope with things like trees and light knocks perfectly fine. Rub either against a brick and you’ll get the same results on either too.

That’s an opinionated question because to free spirit fans that extra 100 quid is definitely worth the spend.
However I’ve seen no evidence to show there is £100 extra worth in the blanks technology itself.
the most advanced blanks I’ve come across so far in the barbel blank world regarding lightness, slimness, responsiveness for the power is the daiwa basia blank. It’s not my all time favorite but they have moved that forward with there new all directional wrap. You can feel the difference using one.

A mate of mine bought a pair of Hexagraph rods for tench/barbel fishing in about 1995. We went to the factory (a chicken shed) to spec them up etc etc. They were seriously expensive.

Once he had them delivered they were awful. Heavy, un responsive and then the sections started to de-laminate as the glue obviously wasn’t right……

He had to take them back several times and wished he had never bought them.

I’ve always been deeply intrigued by the Hexagraphs as I’ve never seen one let alone picked one up. Bit out of my price range, but I’ve always thought it would be nice to match one with a pin and stalk some carp on it.
Me too Joe.
I’d love to take the little 11ft 1.25 down the river and roll baits all day. I’ve never seen one in the flesh either.
it’s on the bucket list …… play big barbel on hex

If there's No Qualitty difference between 2 lb Torrix and 2.25 Hi s ,
Why choose the more expensive rod (FS) ??? Having looked at both ,I assume it's because the
FS has more of a custom built look to it ?

If we take the two rods complete in standard form there is differences.
for 1 the reel seats.
Top free spirits use an expensive carbon fibre reel seat with a built in isotope. Probably 60-65 quid worth
Your torrix is probably a plastic Fuji dps £12-15
Now I prefer the Fuji all day long despite the cost difference. Those carbon ones are a pain in the arse.
there is going to be people that tell you they are better and people that say they aren’t. I’m sure you’ve heard it a thousand times but never buy a rod on price or someone else’s opinion.
you’ll know all too well Adam that just leads to flogging them off cheap.

I bought mine secondhand, Tim, and maybe because of that my experience is very different - with the 1.25lb tc No 2 Avon. Can you remember which model your friend bought? Mine's light, very responsive and a joy to play any fish on, from a small chub to a big barbel. Just soaks up the power of the bigger fish, with oodles of finesse.

Will Behave Rich with words like oddles and finesse!
I don’t have 1200 quid to throw at a rod 🤣
