Partiblend - cheap alternative

Jon Whelan

Senior Member
Just looking at prices for next seasons bait possibilities. A friend some years ago advised that 'Red Band Pidgeon Conditioner' or 'TK Conditioner' is a cheap alternative to 'Partiblend'.

Has anyone used any of these or any other alternatives to partiblend & are they a world apart, other than the price tag?

Cheers, Jon

Visit a good petshop or two.

Buy a bit of everything seed-wise, in bulk or goodish quantities.

Mix it all together....

Jon, you may well find that Pidgeon conditioner IS parti blend, if not its very similar !! its cheap as chips in any seed merchant, works very well and swells dramatically when cooked so a little dry goes a long way.

Like Paul has said, make your own. Partiblend is not some magical or highly researched blend of chosen seeds to meet all of the fish's dietary needs, its just a bunch of particles in different sizes that will keep them rooting about in your swim.

Add a few small pellets and fish a 10mm yellow pineapple boilie over the top ;)

Very good thread this as i do get through a lot of bait during a season. Last season 30kg of hemp and 40kg of pellets/fishmeal. Just one question about partiblend is it prone to getting pulled away in the flow of a river? or does it act just like hemp?

Thanks for the replies all - appreciated. I used to fish mostly with paste around the hook, but have more recently become a cage feeder convert opening up all sorts of blends for a potential mix.

Reading re Partiblend: mixture of 14 seeds. I like the idea of what Dave & Paul suggested by selecting a few seeds as I will be adding other bits too & using pellet paste as a binder (20%). A couple of other questions if I may?

1. Do the likes of partiblend/pidgeon conditioners list the seeds on the bag despite being not for human consumption or
2. Would anyone have any suggestions as to which seeds of the blend are more barbel orientated? I was thinking of size, taste (sweet/salty) & texture
3. Upon preparation of this conditioner, it produces more of a slimy juice rather than that of the more watery hemp juice. Would you wash the final seed blend of this slime or would you incorporate this to wet ones mix as with say hemp juice?
4. As per Jon's comment - does much get pulled away in the flow?

Many thanks again for the responses so far,

Jon

Hi men ,

Barbel will eat all the seeds indicated on the bag , and the slime given out in the cooking is very usefull ;) . I dont think they will seek out one seed over another , but its the feeding situation you are creating that will keep them serching around in the swim . Yes some of the seeds will be washed downstream , as are most baits , as the boyancy will change from seed to seed . Add to that a mixture of pellets sizes , a dollop of hemp , and use the slime to dappen your feeder mix .
