See the Mail are reporting that Koi carp worth £10k have been eaten from a pond in the barbel hotspot of Thetford in Norfolk!! Doesn't seem any fish are safe from the otters.....

Not sure a big wig in the animal rights fraternity would have a pond Nick, at least not one full of expensive captive ornamental fish!

I don't see why not Andrew...I would imagine from its stated capacity (compared to it's apparent size from the pictures) that the pond in the article is one of those state of the art types that koi lovers specialise in. It will probably have a filtration system of huge dimensions, filled with technical magic that allows seemingly impossible numbers of fish to live in pristine conditions, with incredible water quality. I would think it difficult for even an animal rights activist to find fault with the conditions fish enjoy in this type of pond.

Then again, we are talking about the weird and wonderful (and dare I say frequently misguided) world of animal rights people here....so you are most likely right.

These are the types that would swoop in on such a pond, net the fish out and 'free' them into the local canal/river/lake thinking they were doing the fish a favour! The fact they would be introducing alien species to an environment, possibly carrying disease, is lost on these people.

I don't believe they had 25lb ghost carp in that pond. I have a 3000 gallon pond with 5 koi in it, the smallest is about 8lb the largest is just 20 (a ghost called Casper). I did have 13 until a couple of years ago when my daughter decided to introduce a couple of fairground goldfish, it was carnage. Within 10 seconds of them going in Casper pounced on the one and it disappeared down it's maw, he then stalked the other one for around 10 minutes until it suffered the same fate. I can't imagine that those goldfish would not suffer the same fate if they had had a 25lb carp in there.
That wasn't the end of the carnage though, a couple of weeks later I found the first floating corpse, this was followed by a further seven who had all died as a result of some unknown disease, probably as a result of the introduction of those two poxy goldfish.

You mean to tell me that the self righteous, double standards fraternity,with someone who has become rich on the misfortunes of others would not have such an array of prize carp costing thousands ???:confused:
