Old tackle and house contents

My mother and father passed away last year and it's now time to get rid of all their possessions. Tackle wise there's not a great deal of stuff but there is a bit of 60's/70's gear that may be of interest.
This is all from memory at the moment.:-
14' Apollo taperflash float rod
20' cane Roach pole
a few Mitchell 300's
rod holdall tackle box etc.
Very nice 12' glass float rod made by Middlesex angling co., on a Lerc blank.

House contents, pretty much everything, quite new Beko fridge, freezer and cooker, Bosch(I think)washing machine and dishwasher, beds, chests of drawers, G plan style bedroom furniture, mirrors, good quality three piece suite, large rug, very nice circular/oval timber dining table and chairs (custom made) very nice glass display case, etc. etc.
They lived in Singapore for a few years and there are a few oriental style framed prints and the like.
The house is in Garston, Herts and I'd be happy to show anyone round by appointment.
If any member is in the house clearing business, and is interested, or could give me any advice I'd be really grateful.
Please PM me your mobile no. and I'll call you.
Kind regards

Sorry to hear that Paul.

However I have done a couple of house clearing myself, (No I am not a didicoy ) One was an eccentric chap who collected anything from skips, to such an extent he fell in the last skip he did and sadly died.
His Bungalow was full to the rafters with 'rubbish' well I say rubbish but there was a really nice book hidden in a cupboard that was a all about English Lakes, worth about c.£300 Oh! and a partly built light aircraft in the Garage. :) Took me a few visits to the local recycling centre to clear it all.

But to save all the hassle why don't you consider a Garage Sale? Folk love that sort of thing and at least it won't go to landfill, just yet.

The old fishing tackle normally sales well on ebay, especially cane, and the old 300's will sale especially if in good condition.

House clearance companies are generally not the best payers, unless you are desperate.

My commiserations Paul...When my grandparents died my mother asked a house clearance "specialist "to come and give a valuation, the guy walked in, looked around and said, not interested, but I will give you twenty quid for a picture and a display cabinet, she was about to accept when I stepped in and told him to get out , called him a grave robber and had a quiet word with him outside, he left quickly. My grandparents did not have much, but had always looked after what they did have.

I sorted out the effects, sold the Cabinet for £100.00 and the picture for £150.00, after that, I managed to sell most of the other bigger / valuable items, the rest went to a couple of local charities, obviously there were quite a lot of things that the family kept as keepsakes.

It takes a bit of time, and can be quite upsetting, but I would never ever advise anybody to get a house clearance specialist in, IMO they are out to make maximum profit from somebody who may well be vulnerable , and upset at a time of personal loss.

Sorry Neil, not pointing a finger at you, I am targetting the as you call them didecoy, not welcome here !

It is a term used generally used to describe a group of people who are not true gypsies. It is not meant to be a derogatory description of a group on my part David.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was thinking of taking some of the portable stuff to a boot sale on Sunday, I like the idea of a garage sale for the larger items, any suggestions about advertising?
David how did you sell the display cabinet and pictures?
I'm an Ebay virgin but I am going to give it a go.

Paul.. I occasionally renovate antique furniture as a hobby more than anything, I sell those renovated articles I dont keep to antique shops, and have a few that I know and trust to give me a decent price for what I have to offer,so I didnt really have any problem, I also sell bits no bobs on e.bay occasionally.
E,bay is simples, but I always put a start price that I think is reasonable and I am willing to accept, sometimes starting at 99p can bite you on the bum, other times it pays, you have to take your chance and decide accordingly.
Good luck with the car boot / Garage sale.....like that idea too.

David.

Paul, with ebay, it's always worth looking at what similar items have sold for to give you a rough idea. As David said above the 99p starting piece can bite you, as my wife found out when she listed a dog guard for a Renault that ended up selling for 99p! Still we doubled our money as the bloke who bought it only had a £2 coin when he turned up!
