Im looking for a new pair of reels and the shimano exage 4000 double handled have takin my eye has anyone got or used these reels and are they any good and upto the job? Cheers chaps!!!

hi mate, i have a pair of these reels in the 3000 size.I have landed lots of 20lb plus carp on them plus barbel to 15lb. Although i usually go for front drag reels, i bought these in rear drag because of the fighting drag aspect, which really comes into its own when playing a fish, you can also use the FD as a baitrunner. I dont think you would regret getting them mate!

I have one of the rear drag models, the 4000. Nice reel, smooth drag and as mentioned the 'Fighting Drag' comes in handy at times. Not baitrunner, but if I was fishing that way I would use one of my other reels. I use it mainly for roving when I know I'll be holding the rod at all times. TBH, when Barbel fishing I only use the baitrunner if I have to focus on something else for a moment or two.

Im looking for a pair of new reels i always use the baitrunner in the past when not using the baitrunner ive lost fish not avin my eye on the ball to be onnest id rather uee the baitrunner.

I've got a exage 4000 and a 2500 for my lighter set up ad I think they're brilliant. Smooth, seem fairly light for reels these days and feel well built.

Danny, you want to grab the pair of reels Ben is selling................ they are a bargain and brilliant barbel reels, i wish i had some cash.

Is there much of a difference in the 3000 and 2500 as iv been offered a pair of 2500 but not sure weather to go for a pair of 3000, there going on greys prodigy barbel 1.5tc 12ft rods
