Evening Barbellers,

Im just about to get myself a new lightish 50 inch brolly, should i just go into argos and get one or should i look into models a little bit more, brolly only needs to have the tilt facility, not looking for one with sides etc....I have seen the korum one mentioned before?

no they bend so as not to buckle ive got the preston flatback thats the same it bends in the wind but light better of with a big hat!
 
John, I have the old waterline and the new camo waterline, superb brollies, lightweight, but you cannot face them openside into a strong wind as they will invert............... I have never actually found this a problem though, just put them side on!!
 
Thanks for your replies lads, dont think that i would use a brolly openside into a strong wind. Think i will look at the mission and the korum one, are the waterline models still available Ian? I will check that.
 
Just looked at the 50 inch waterline green nylon version £30, the mechanism look exactly like the Brollnets one that i am about to ditch, are they part of the same company?
 
John i have a 50 inch Korum brolly, I've never really got on with it, i find it heavy and even though it has two rings at the back to peg it down it never seem's that stable even in the lightest of breezes. The spike very quickly bent so i replaced it with a solid threaded one which added even more weight, as i'd say it's anything but lightweight...I've looked at the Waterline and would be interested in what other's think or can recommend as a good lightweight brolly..

Thank you for that info regarding the Korum i will scratch that from the list, lightness is a paramount..
 
I would advise against the Argos Keenets one, I've had two recently and they both went back. First one had a latching mechanism defect so it wouldn't lock into position, the second one leaked at the first hint of rain. I'm back onto my old heavyweight one until I find something better.

Yes i have seen a couple of the models advertised on ebay one green and one grey, the green one looks very much like my seen better days Brollnets 50 inch, the waterline 50 inch has a guide price of £40 but can be picked up cheaper. just need to know the how light or heavy it is, not forgetting that Ian is very strong:eek:

I have both a grey Fibre-lite and a camo fibre-lite, the camo one seems to be a little better made, i.e. it is a tighter cover but that I imagine is a revision which will also have been applied to the grey ones. They have a totally waterproof and therefore fairly heavy cover but a fibreglass frame and ally pole which both bring the weight right down. Compared to the old Korum metal framed 50 incher I had a few years back (which blew flat in anything above a breeze!!) they are overall lighter.

I know they sell the waterlines at Reading and Yately angling centres, maybe they have them in one nearer you John where you could have a "browse"??
 
I have an excellent quality Korum day shelter mark 1 sitting doing nothing,lightweight no poles to mess about with etc.
Shall have to get that up in classified along with Shimano 25ltr realtree rucksack and im sure a few other bits.
I gave up with brollies,too many broke,we use our rainsheild keenets brolly[lightweight] for the beach and use french army gortex for wet weather fishing.
