Net and pole

I found that a great resource when I first got into barbel fishing a few years ago, and parts of it are still great. But sadly it's five or six years out of date now, some of the recommended products are obsolete, there have been many new products since, and most of the links don't work.

I can't help you with the net (are you looking for a trout-style flip net?) but I find my Drennan Super Specialist handle excellent for stalking. It's very light but immensely strong, and the half-turn twist-lock makes it easy to extend (even while playing a fish!). I find that when stalking I often end up in awkward swims — the extendable handle allows me to land fish beyond bushes, snags and undergrowth. On the other hand, you mention travel, so you may be looking for a shorter collapsible pole whereas the Drennan is just over 5', non-extended.
