Muckboot repair

Martin Lingard

Active Member
I recently sliced the rubber ( foot) bit on my Muckboot on some fencing wire but it hasn't tore right through.
Has anyone carried out a repair before? I'm looking to try cleaning around the slit with white spirit then infilling it with shoe goo or similar but will it give a long term repair?
Moral of story is , don't attempt to wear these for work purposes even if its a two minute job: mad:

Martin,
I would not recommend white spirit as it leaves an oily residue which will effect and adhesive. Better to wash well with warm water with a little washing up liquid. Rinse and let dry. Then it depends on the damage, but if it is a slit, I would use black silicone sealant, then leave for 24 hours to fully cure before wearing.
Good luck.

Yes, I somehow got a cut in my shortly after I bought them. Repaired with Aquasure ( it creates a " soft " pliable glue ) and still fine seven or eight years on.

Perhaps not!!

FLEX TAPE adhesives may resist bonding to the following surfaces: Plasticized materials, siliconized, greasy, oily, dirty or porous surfaces, waterproof or water-repellent materials and fabrics. Always test before use.

Boooo!

Lots of reviews/tests for Flex Tape on youtube, most of them are pretty good. :)

Bought some from China, ( much cheaper, if your not in a hurry for delivery ), very impressed with it. :)

Aquasure is very good but expensive for the quantity you get. It's possibly just re packaged silicone.
Something I use in my work is a sealant called CT1, it's a brilliant sealant and adhesive sticks to virtually anything, even works on wet surfaces or underwater. A solvent/cleaner called multisolve is also sold alongside which would be ideal to prepare before sealing.
I'd use CT1.
Definitely avoid the white spirit for the already mentioned reasons.
Otherwise using detergent or similar get as clean as possible. Nothing will stick to dirt. Silicone will only stick to bone dry surfaces.
Might be worth using some brake/contact cleaner but test first to make sure it doesn't melt the neoprene.
If you do use silicone, which could work, bear in mind that nothing else will stick to it ever, if you need to re do the repair.
There are cheaper alternatives to CT1 (about £12 A tube) check they say it works on wet surfaces or underwater. Soudal do a good one.

Stormsure

I have used Stormsure from amazon. £6.38 a tube. This is the stuff they repair wetsuits and waders.
I've used it on leather boots, hoses and goretex clothing thats ripped. Seems to do the job.
