The Chairman on Wednesday

Some fellow writing about the heart-rending ends that sea fish come to in nets just to feed us big bad humans.

Fortunately, now, the vast majority of Guardian readers, even the most Vegan, Meat Is Murder inclined, see the chap and the potty, people- and animal-hating PET{A} crowd for what they are: desperate, attention-seeking, suitable cases for incarceration and treatment.

I have sent the gent an invitation this morning, to join us here at the Castle (particularly our Guests in The Cellars). If I get no reply, I will send Kevin to remind him of his absolute need to attend...

On the other hand, said Gurnardistas are getting pretty shirty about the prospect of an English badger cull - http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/sep/15/badger-cull-england-jim-paice

TB? Or not TB? That is the question....

The silly cu(ller)s - "Black and white, black and white, I love the sight and sound of a dying brock in the morning, and in the evening, and at any timeslot in between..." fail to realise that you might wipe out badgers at point X, but the survivors only spread to points A to Z then breed like hell.

And what do you get then?

Loads more TB than you had in the first place.

Still, the selfless cullers will be happy.

As ever,
