what are the favourite baits?

I have caught one Chris and it was on red maggot. Unfortunately, this pathetic return on my float fishing efforts makes my contribution to your enquiry statistically worthless. I do intend to try the following baits with greater enthusiasm: bread/meat/worms/pellets.

in my mind i have only really considered natural baits suitable for float fishing, do people catch on pellets on the float?

Sweetcorn is good - get some of the plastic stuff for the hook - you can also expect to pick up chub & surprisingly, grayling.
