Mono hook link

Which mono hook link do you prefer, I just bought some Guru 9.7 lb ,
It seams really thin for the Breaking strain 😳A bit worried about using it 🤔

Preston reflo for me,nice and supple and their 11lb test is only 0.24mm,last time i bought it was about £6 for 100m

It'll most likely be pre-stretched (a la Drennan Double Strength) so will have much less 'give' in it. Not so good for fishing at very close range for bigger fish, but fine ('fine' geddit! 😂) at medium/long range with stretchy main line (i.e. as a 'cushion').
Otherwise, sorry, but I don't use mono hooklinks, I use braid, or fluoro (in clear water conditions, or fishing at very close range e.g. snags)

Use reflo for short hooklinks and for chubbing when it's straight through to the hook. I wouldn't use it for barbel though, not enough strength or abrasion resistance imo.

I use Reflo for float fishing but imo its not abrasion resistant enough for the feeder. I prefer fluro for feeder fishing.

Hi Terry, which braid do you use ?

Depends Adam ... on the Middle Severn/tenching I mostly use Drennan microbraid (I think it looks and feels more natural than anything else), and if I'm using coated braid (Lower Severn etc) my fave is Striptease (mostly as it strips so easily) or Sufix Camo Skin. But hooklength material is not a big issue for me (but maybe that's why I blank so regularly 😂 )

Just tried testing the guru BS ☹️ Snapped at a lot less than stated BS ITS GOING IN THE BIN !!! Drennan double strength was just as bad !! Savage gear fluorocarbon ,again snapped at about half of BS 😤.
I stopped using braid awhile ago ,but now considering using again.
Berkley triline in 12lb and 10lb was perfect.

Where did these lines break? I often use Drennan Supplex in ~7lb bs. Landed some fair fish on it by misadventure, but knots need to be perfect.

I use diawa sensor for main line and the same but 2lb lighter for hook length. Sensor is very tough and breaks significantly over the stated b.s.

Hi Adam,
I use Berkley Trilene xl in 10lb on the middle Trent. It knots well and is durable unlike the low diameter copolymer or pre stretched lines. It catches me plenty of barbel so they obviously don't mind the thickness or stiffness.
I do think that Amnesia is too thick and too stiff for barbel. I used to use it for sea fishing.

Hi Ian,
I have been using braided main line 30lb , plus a 20lb Amnesia shock leader .
I normally use braided hooklinks but thinks thats making the whole set up to stiff , I have had a number of hook pulls just recently ,lost a bloody good fish ☹️ Hence looking to use a strong mono hooklength !
The guru stuff is rubbish,as well as the Drennan double strength, both have well overrated BS.( you can have them if you want 🤣🤣)
I WILL HAVE A LOOK AT THE TRILENE👍
Will be at EAST STOKE AM tomorrow . Lost the big fish on peg 6 😤 On 20mm squid bolilie !
The guy in the next peg showed me a photo of a big fish he had caught ,he measures them ,doesn't weigh them!!!
32" long 10" girth 😳.possibly 15lb ish .
