Midland AC - Trent at Caythorpe stretch

Does anyone have any knowledge please on the above stretch of Trent at Caythorpe, run by Midland Angling? Was thinking of giving it a bash. I know the car park end gets bivvied up in peak times but was thinking more towards Gunthorpe.

I fished that stretch about half a dozen times around 2007 and back then it was prolific but never had a double, although friends did better. There were some good swims a couple of rod lengths out, friends did better fishing further down towards the where the brook flows into the river.

Always found it a very pleasant place to fish, I never saw that many other anglers on the bank and there were some lovely longhorn cattle grazing the field. At dusk a barn owl would invariably start quartering the rough grassland on the opposite bank. I never bivvied up, but sometimes fished through till around midnight.

Not sure what it is like now, but I doubt it has changed that much. And there are some very big fish just upstream at Gunthorpe, so when that tip bends around you just never know!

Sounds like it’s worth a trip then Joe, thanks for the feedback. There’s always a lot fish hoveringham end at the gravel car park and I do know where the brook runs in, I think it’s the Doverbeck. Nice pint in the Black Horse too! 🍺 Cheers Joe
