Maples

Yes,I've used them quite a lot in the past.A brilliant barbel bait and carp love them too.I soak them for 48 hours before simmering for 15 minutes until they just start to soften,then you can hair rig or simply side hook them.
Some anglers use additives but I have not found it necessary and had good results with freshly cooked bait.I cook them in bulk in a huge pan and then freeze them in smaller bags.
A quite cheap option if you buy in bulk,I've still got some in the freezer from last season and am tempted to give them a try on the 16th.
 
Keith Speer wrote an article about drawing Barbel out of a weirpool using Maple peas, it worked.
Should be able to find it on here somewhere.
