maize ??

Based on my experience, they'll eat it in the summer, not half as much as chub or bream if present but it doesn't have the pulling power of a meaty / fishy / milk / cheese based bait.

OK for a prebait. Will catch, but wouldn't be top of my list.
 
...also, if tempted, try the crushed maize as feed, smaller particles with more surface area to draw in more fish of all species to feed.

I always pick up a sack of Mais Concasse in French supermarkets, great stuff, ferments fast once prepped (but still shouts chub and bream).

Also arguable whether there's any advantage over bulk bags of frozen sweetcorn.
