Maggot clips

Hi, I was wondering about using maggot clips this season on the rivers, had anyone had much success with them? and does it matter about the kind of maggot clip you get? I've saw black coloured clips and chrome coloured ones. Am I right in thinking the chrome coloured clips would reflect the light more and possibly spook fish?

Thanks Dave

Never tried the clips on the river but did give them a good coat of looking at for carping.

The conclusions I came to where that I did better without them, than with them.

They are invariably blunt to massacred the grubs while putting them on.

I found that one artificial used as a mag aligner and athree of four on the hook itself where far better.

Only my opinion of course:)

Maggot clips are one of those marmite items. As Martin said, they usually do make a pigs ear of the maggots when you are trying to thread them on, so you end up with a sorry looking mess for a presentation. I guess you could try and sharpen them like a hook, but I really can't be naffed with them. The 'mag aligner' rig he mentions would work for sure. As Mark mentioned, maggots super-glued onto a cork ball works. It was the traditional way for carping, the 'Medusa' produced by gluing the bums of about thirty maggots onto a largish ball is a sight to behold :D Obviously you would scale that down for barbel, but it is a decent method.

Cheers, Dave.

Try super-gluing them onto a boilie for a real effective bait.

I thread a dozen or so onto a bit of two pound line with an ordinary sewing needle then tie the whole thing to the loop on the hair, easy. A nice fine needle will slide through them like butter.

one of my local clubs have banned em, no idea why?

David, One of my still waters I frequent has also banned them. When asked why I got told that the circle clip has an overlapping point which sticks out and can damage the fish.

Before you say it..... I did tell them that the hook with the barb goes into the mouth aswell.

beating head against wall face!!!!!!

Used them for a few years now and had some good success wspecially used when I have been stick floating and fancy a sit down. Top tip is wet the maggot and ring before you hook them, that way you dont bust the maggot.

There is enough ironmongery around his mouth without adding to it.to me it is better to put them on the hook.two grubs on a strong 16s is all it needs sometimes.the job is complicated enough without all this fancy stuff
