Lost my mojo

Can't get excited about the coming season. I don't fish during the closed season apart from one social trip (far more social than fishing) so I should be raring to go. But I'm not feeling it this year. Lost my mojo - I've heard of it happening to others but never to me before.

Where will I fish, when will I fish? Not given it a thought. Prefer darkness so maybe I'll just have to wait until September or so.

happened to me a few years ago,got to the stage where I would plan a trip, wake up and just roll back over and go to sleep! Watched passion for angling all the way through and went back to fishing for whatever came along, worked for me! It's an awful feeling though,I feel for you, hang in there it will come back!

Similar for me. Almost time to call it a day chasing decreasing numbers of fish at my usual venues and can't work up any enthusiasm for fishing generally. Maybe time to rekindle my interest in sea fishing, but really can't be bothered at the moment.
Time to thin out the gear.

Not been fishing this month, came back from Florida at the end of May which always has a bad effect on my UK fishing, can't get into static fishing after 3 weeks+ on the lures. However I also came back with a hamstring strain which has made it difficult to get out, driving more than a few miles is very painful and sitting on a fishing chair unbearable. So, when I finally get over that, I will be champing at the bit to get back out, just hope it doesn't take too long!

Do you think it is because of that big Barbel you had last season, sort of done that got the T shirt thing? There's a guy a few doors down from me, keen as mustard he has been since I have known him, Carp mad, even had his own syndicate, saw him last week and he says he is 'done' with Carp fishing, can't stand all the commercialism and the sheer all about the gear thing. He now does a bit of sea fishing which is fine except here we are as far from the Coast as you can be, loves catching Dogfish of all things.

Personally I feel a bit the same, did a bit of float fishing last week, with some maggots, caught loads of small Rudd and a decent Roach, you know the sort of thing we did as kid's. Nothing as nice as seeing a float, apart from it disappearing :)

I don’t think how you are feeling is anything to worry about!
To be a lifelong angler, you don’t have to go fishing all the time.
My advice would be to choose something new be it a style, species, season etc...

Nothing to do with catching a big fish Neil, I don't fish that river much preferring another. I had a big fish the previous season, thought to be biggest from the stretch but I didn't publicise, it's just not my thing (normally).

Best fight ever from a barbel was a nine I had last season, enjoyed that and was not disappointed when I netted it. It was the biggest of four fish in that session, never had four before where one (or none) is the norm.

I used to fish for tench and pike, neither interest me at all now. Fishing with red pointy things doesn't interest me. Cannot chuck fluff as my neck and shoulder are knackered.

Bob.
Went down to South Wales last week for my first proper go at beach fishing.
Loved the surf sand and breeze.
Mark W managed a few fish including couple of smoothounds to 7lb+.

Although I only managed a small bass I have now kitted myself out with all the gear and intend going a week into the river season.

Give it a go.

Paul. You need some river changes.

I often get this during the close season, you’d think catching fish from lakes would help Fan the flame but it’s often the opposite. Soon as I get on that river though the additional is back full steam.

Really sorry to hear of your travails, Paul (and Bob too). After a dozen years fishing for barbel exclusively my enthusiasm is still there, unabated - somewhat surprisingly bearing in mind my terrible last season. I don't know what to recommend, but hope you're happy within yourself. Fishing doesn't have to come first.

I go through it from time to time. I take a year out every few years for one or two, or even all species. I've neglected the pike and chub fishing totally for two seasons and feel like I'm looking forward to the coming winter.

I've just joined a new club to target different waters for barbel as the club waters I've fished for the last few years seem to have suffered with predation by seals, whether I rejoin that particular club remains to be seen.

A change is as good as a rest in my case.

Perhaps you need a fresh challenge you could always offer your wealth of knowledge to one or two of us freshers that might help you get going again & certainly benefits all the other lads who fumble about season after season on the bank of course

If your getting rid of an 11 foot torrix I’ll have it off ya bob;)
Yeah iv the feeling of cant be bothered with it anymore with carp fishing years ago. Never had it with the river though luckily. Not been carp fishing for about 5 years now probably but wouldn’t sell my gear cause I know one day I’ll want to go again and would hate having to rebuy everything

Hi men,
Paul , you made a comment on the Marden thread about the amount me and Sue travelled for our fishing , and that may well be your answer .
This afternoon me and my dad spent 3 hours spraying red maggots on our local canal catching 5 species , missing far more bites tgan we hooked , time flew , we got a tan !.

Hatter .

Hi men,

If all else fails , find a stretch where you sight fish , we oftern used to spend more time watching than fishing , and iv said it before , walked away from feeding barbel without the need to put a rig to tgem . Sight fishing cures all .
