Looking for the perfect landing net

I know it's been said before, but I don't think the perfect net for big barbel has been made yet for the roving angler anyhow,
I prefer to use power stretch extender that I bought from Bfw modded

Triangle carp nets ok but to big and deep And no good really for teme

Large tear drops ok but don't break down and fit in sling ( broke my Berkeley net other night on barb wire fence)

I have a spare rovex which is superb if only the net was just a little bigger
And its a shame the spreader was not detachable but superb in it own right

Any ideas

I have had the korum latex spoon net... which is great apart from its not that deep and in strong flow its like flying a kite sometimes...

I also have the gardner barbel net which is cheaper but go anywhere with it and it finds something to snag onto. which is when you have a fish on !!.

Hi men,

There was a perfect net made once , that was the saviour of barbel angler. It was a Kevin Nash oval carbon . It did everything it needed . It was 2 arms that stayed inside the net , with a Velcro patch allowing the arms to poke through when broken down , it looked like a normal carp net . To turn it into a spoon you flexed it into a spoon shape joining one arm into the other with a spigot , and the Velcro patch covered the join . Great bit of kit , but not robust enough , and people broke it at the join . I'm sure a stronger uprated version would sell in bundles , mine lasted years before I broke it . Untill tackle companies research it properly we will end up with the substandard stuff that we have now !.

I use the Gardner net. Apart from the screws working a bit loose every so often it has done great for me. Big enough to rest a large Barbel and I've used it in really tight swims on the Teme and Bristol Avon with no problem.

I think that is the point of stuff they make. If it didn't break they'd be out of business if we all had kit that lasted years.
 
Another vote for the middy 30" strong arm mate
 
This may be a stupid question but is the middy 30 a 30 inch net? I think they go bigger but still under the middy 30 plus name......Is a 30 inch tri net to small for the job???
 
I think mines the 36'' and its perfect once you take out the annoying lead weights in the bottom of it.
 
I have heard it said that the Fox 32 inch triangular specialist net is more suited to stillwater fishing due to its small mesh size??? Anyone?
 
The middy iq strong arm barbel net is a 30" the 36" is a specimen net. I had the 36" sent when i ordered the 30 and the thoughts on the 36" wasnt good to me the spreader block was a nightmare to
 
I gave up some years ago really. My net (which I'm very happy with) has been put together with bits from various manufacturers..
Drennan Super specialist Twistlock 3m tele-pole (with a strip of velcro 4-5" from net end that holds the net taught whilst walking between swims)
Quick release connector (for quick release of head from pole).
Metal spreader block.
32" net from free Spirit.
32" arms with stainless steel tips at each end.
And these arms are tensioned with a length of steel-core washing line!
Its the best compromise I've come up with..it does the biz, and never lets me down.

we use the fox predator rubberised nets think they are 32" been using them for around 2 years and seem to be working really well and had no problems with the spreader block.:)
 
The Korum arms on the rubberised net work loose at the spreader block and keep popping out espi.cally in faster flow must be some twisting motion,as for handles i broke my Drennan Twistlock to other night in a really pacy swim at the screw when the carbon went,since bought the middy30plus ard core handle which looks good so far
 
I have 2 triangle specimen nets a 32 and 36 one tight mesh the other more open, both fit same alloy spreader but find them cumbersome and to deep, also with a fair flow I like to play fish to up stream a little and drop it back in to net,depending on size of fish, I have a spoon that I have used that I have just repaired, so will get by

I think it's more to do with spreader block design is where the problem lies ,the rovex collapsible mechanism is well built good idea, but the net is to small for longer fish like barbel
I did land a 13lb carp the other day on the rovex but was using 6ft rod and center pin and was on a still water

Hi terry was looking at those quick release adapters ,which kind have you got bayonet fittings or ball bearing kinder pull to release,
Only read that bearing kind may not be suitable for landing net purpose because of load and could work lose
Was thinking of getting some

I've been using the ball bearing type for about 4 seasons now. They're fine if you keep them clean and WD40 them once in a while. They do tend to wear out after about ~40-50 sessions though, so then I just change to a new one. I've got some of the bayonet type, but not got round to using them yet..basically as the ball bearing types are still going strong:)

I have a fox predator rubberised net but I find that the mesh isn't deep enough to rest a fish after landing. I also have the gardner barbel spoon - great idea but the screws fall out (fixed with araldite) and the rim has bent too easily when lifting big fish from the water, even when hanging onto the rim. The mesh is also a bit fragile and has torn too easily when caught on brambles etc. If I could find a net the same size as the gardner spoon but more solidly built I would be happy.

I don't believe that there'll ever be a perfect net. On some swims a net will be too deep, on others the same net is too shallow.

I don't like using triangular carp type nets on rivers but carrying decent sized spoon nets is a pain in the backside.

I strongly suspect that my ideal net would be a Drennan Specialist. Unfortunately, Mr Drennan has seen fit to make them no bigger than 24", which isn't quite big enough. However, even if they did one big enough there would be times where it wouldn't be deep enough.
 
For me its the lenght of handle I would like a 12/13ft handle to enable use on high banks telecopic not push over joints. I dont think theres one big enough or strong enough shame really.
