Hi All,

I spooled up my reel last night and unsure if the line lay looks right, does it taper too much? I did add a spool washer but still didn't look right i think.

Hi Wayne, my first question's would be is this a new reel? Or is this a reel that was working fine but was stripped of old line and respooled? If it's yes to first question and you are confident that you respooled correctly then it could be a faulty reel. If yes to the second question then I'd say you have introduced some twist while respooling which is easy to do. Try putting the reel back to how it was ie take out the washer, then take the reel attached to a bottom section of rod to a big open space, tie the line to something and walk off to strip all the line off then simply respool the reel. Worth a try as it will cost you nothing and save your new line.

What's twist got to do with it

If the reel was fine before repooling then it's something that has been introduced while respooling, first thing I'd be looking at is it something I've done ie introduced some twist which has altered the line lay. If it's a new reel then as Ben mentioned add more shims to correct.
