landing nets

as you may know i'm an old fart and over the years i have seen many landing nets - right from the Mk 4 cane nets and the later Efgeeco (sic?) specimen nets that weighed a ton

i was looking for a new (well two as i fish one net 'left' and one net 'right')

every bloody net had a tension cord as soft as my old ****

the old style nets had real tension between the arms - but carpers came into the equation and said cord had no tension because of the trend to disassemble the net and 'roll it up'

well after many tests and returned products i have the answer

the Drennan Specialist landing net heads - available in 32 and 36 inch frames - these really need tension to fit the arms

and they are not silly deep - excellent for river work

i had the Korum equivalent on 'test' and it failed in every respect - i'm not tall but i could nearly stand up in the net -told Korum and they could not give a fig!

all in all a bloody brilliant net at a good price

Never had a problem, I just shorten the tension cord. In fact I've replaced cord on a couple of brand new nets that I've had with washing line cord (steel/wire core ... plastic covered).

Greys Free Flow Specialist Nets feature super strong “D” shaped alloy frames, coupled with sturdy spreader blocks that won’t rock loose - thanks to double stainless steel screw anchoring. They have brass threads that won’t oxidise, along with robust triple stitched free-flow mesh, which cuts down on drag when submerged and prevents excess water retention when lifting fish. They are 75cm deep - perfect for Pike, Zander, Barbel, Carp etc.

Free-flow mesh
Triple stitched seams
Deep 75cm inside drop
Reinforced spreader blocks
Double stainless screw anchoring
Brass thread
Strong “D” section alloy frame

Terry i have tried this approach using i think it was 100lb sea fishing trace wire - crimped

BUT

the way the arms are manufactured means that they are too 'stiff' to form the classic bow shaped net

have a look at the Drennan website and see how the nets look when assembled

thanks for that useful information - much appreciated

however, i have serious concerns with Greys as a manufacturer as they change specs on all their tackle more frequently than i change my underwear (slight exaggeration)
