landing net handle

any one got the heavy duty gardner extending 10 ft net handle, is it good and reliable ?. it sells for £40 ish have found them at £35 but need to know if they fail with landing big fish up a high bank.

Hello Trevor a few lads on my local Bristol Avon use theirs on the high banks there. They like them probably not quite as good as the powerstretches but lighter and fairly reliable.

Have a Gardner one and am very pleased with it. Also, don't have to constantly clean/replace the locking widget like on some !! ( C'mon Mr Drennan, you do some great gear sort out this long standing issue! )

Think the Drennan and the Gardner far too expensive, look at the cheaper options, such as the 10' fibre glass 3 piece by Dinsmores. Come with garish graphics on the handle that can be covered with gaffer tape...circa £13 :)

the gardner specialist landing net handle isnt the lightest or the slimmest on the market but mine has served me well for four seasons now......touch wood!

Thats the problem those 2 handles far to expensive!!! Not much other choice though...:(

net handle

just had info about a uk firm called conoflex. I know they used to build good beachcaster rods in the 70s and 80s but I am told that a top of range heavy duty handle with the conoflex name on it is now on the market. anyone know anything about it.

Very similar to the powerstretch built to last.

Conoflex Heavy Duty - have had this handle for many years, locking screw can give problems with age.
Main disadvantage that it only (in standard form) extends to around 8.5 feet. I modded mine to get around 9.5'. Durable handle made of fibreglass.
Drennan 10' - bit light for my needs - twistlock mechanism not the most reliable in the world (especially for high bank work).
Gardner 10' - well built, used mine for a couple of seasons now, no real problems.
Powerstretch 8 and 10'- fine but heavy, cam lock a bit spindley. The older ones had a twist and lock but were prone to seize.
Hope this helps,
Bob

My choice - Gardner.
