Landing net handle

I broke my cheap landing net handle yesterday, I'd appreciate any recommendations for a replacement, I do a fair bit of walking and roving so I'm looking for something compact and leightweight

Depends on how compact (more than 2 pieces?), what size of net, and how much you're willing to pay. I use a couple of Drennan Super Specialist Twist Locks myself, and am very pleased with them. They're very light.. but they're not for the ham-fisted:eek:

Korum power stick handle is nice and light mate I've got the lone angler one but boy she is a heavy one

Got a Powerstretch and a Gardner, prefer the Gardner as it's longer and lighter but think the Powerstretch is probably tougher. Looked at the Twistlock when they first came out and decided there was too much chance of the twist(un)locking at the wrong moment!
 
had the drennan twistlock, used it once, got the gardner specialist and stuck the drennan on ebay:D, much better in my opnion
 
I have the big three, Lone Angler, Gardner and Drennan. I've only recently bought the LA to see what all the fuss is about. The LA is chunky as hell and heavy. I suspect that it would survive a bomb strike. The Gardner is in the middle for both weight and diameter. The Drennan is the lightest and narrowest diameter. If you are hard on your kit, or are one of those that must have things just that bit tighter, it's probably not for you. Despite the tales of woe, I've never had a problem with mine, though I am careful and do carry out some maintenance. The Drennan is likely to remain as my go to handle. I use it for just about all my angling. If I know that I'm going to a swim with a particularly steep drop to the water, I may choose one of the others.
 
Been using a Gardner Specialist twist lock ever since snapping My Drennan. The Gardner is much better the Drennan. After each session i spray silicon along the pole and move in up and down to rid any water of dirt that may have got in the twist lock
 
i use the drennan twistlock on the river and the gardner for carping with a 42" net.
i've used the drennan a lot more over the steep banks of the wye and severn and never had a problem with it, if i lost or broke it tomorrow i would get another with no worries but still keep the gardner for carping..
 
For Barbel i have been using the predecessor to the lone angling one for over twenty years,bought from Trevor West a very long time ago.Its heavy,solid ,been trod on after dark a large number of times.I am a heavy weight and it usually puts a groove in the ground.Why buy a number of crap handles when you can buy just one,if their latest model is still as good then look no further.I do not want to have to go home because i trod on it or it snapped.

Yeah I've got the latest model its heavy but defo made to last very pleased with it so far

The LA handle is, in my opinion, the best you can get. It may weigh a little bit more than most but totally agree Mark, why keep renewing inferior ones?
 
I came home the other day to find the wife using my original 3M Powerstretch handle and spreader block off my Middy Barbel Net as a washing line prop!!!! :eek::mad::mad::mad:

Better not happen again!

On the lighter modern handle front, I've had no issues with my Drennan SS Twist Lock handle.
 
Yeah I'm gonna stick with my lone angler one and if my Mrs uses that as a washing line prop she will be the spreader block on the end of it
 
I've just replaced my Gardner (still works fine) with a Drennan, as I found the former cumbersome when returning barbel to the river using the net - the net end keeps rotating making it difficult to release the fish (not explained very well but I hope you get the idea). The Drennan, although lighter, feels so much more robust. So far so happy. :)

Can't speak about the Gardner but the Drennan Twistlocks are hard as nails and being long and extendable great when you're on a high bank.
