Korum Barbel Specimen net - problems

Steve Hayward

Senior Member
Hi all

Got a Korum Barbel specimen net and was out today and notice the frame has fracture just in front of the spreader block it did not give totally but not for further use. Has anyone else experienced this?

Anyone advise on a replacement - big enough for up to a double barbel

Just emailed Korum as dealer I got it from has folded.......

Cheers

just got the fox 30inch predator net rubberised black mesh like the korum and only cost £17.50 from climax tackle only used it twice but seems more than upto the job.:)

Alan

Had one of the smaller ones probably an earlier version (not rubberised) and than broke at the thread end of the spreader.

What's the one you have like?

I have had 2 of the large nets fail on me. The first one failed where the threaded stud is drilled to take the roll pin. The second broke 2mm from the block. Neither failed through misuse or abuse. I have overcome the problem by removing the pin roll & screwing out the remaining stub. I then superglued a stainless steel bolt in position & cut off to the correct length. Job done.

My mate has also just had his second failure so there will be a further job for me! This has been reported to the Korum representitive so hopefully the design or materials will be changed.

Barbel landing net.

You might have a look at the Gardner landing net head if you are looking for a replacement - Gardner make a lot of their stuff in the UK - not sure if this is.

Thanks for the feedback on the net as I was 100% certain that I had not given it un due stick but even if I had you'd expect it to last.:(

Had a look at the Gardner before having the Korum I liked the shake dry/latex finish.

Going to check the local shop to see what he has.

The Fox looks quiet nice, latex finish, larger holes better for the river, a lot depends on that spreader block.

Mind you now had plastic and metal ones fail.....

Steve,

I had this happen, just cut it off square, re-bent the end really carefully, trying to avoid squashing it, took the broken bit out of the spreader block after removing the grub screw, then slotted the re-bent end in and replaced the grub screw, hey presto, good as new.............
I think you will find that originally it was bent too agressively and fractured, mine was, has been fine since the repair......

Cheers Ian, I was looking at taking it apart after Bob's post.

I have emailed Korum just to see .... if no answer know where I stand on and will give it a fix. Will be a pity to get rid of it as otherwise a class net especially the mesh.

Oh deep joy. After Fox's exploding reels,Drennans temperamental Specialist landing net handle,I've now got the Korum spreader block saga to look forward to.......:D

Pete.

Ian,

Just did the cut and shut and the net looks good to go:D

Took less than 15 mins cheers for the inspiration to put brain in gear.

I started with a Gardner net this season and that failed at the spreader block after just a few fish. I then purchased a Korum which has landed well over two hundred barbel and is still going strong.

Korum Service & Local Dealer - 5*

Got an email back from Korum (Preston) told me to take the net to my dealer to send back to them. They included a phone number so called explaining I had since repaired it. They where OK with that - still send it back via a dealer and they would replace (if as described in my email)

So had a word with my dealer he will send it back in the new year and explained that they will probably credit him and then he'd sort it all out :D

So with that sorted and in the hope of getting out over Xmas I had a look at the nets he got and came out with a Grey's 22" net latex etc. and tackle shop (we have had non of these back - yep I trust him top shop) yep its slightly dearer than some others but looks strong etc.

Get it home and compare it with the Korum and it looks large.....

Turns out Greys net measurements are across the width of the net - Korum's is from lip to spreader block.

Moral of story lads is give the manufacturers a chance to sort things out and I'd always have a look at the gear before you buy save disappointment & use you local dealer regularly. They get to know you and then sort things out like this.

Have a Good Xmas all.
