Korda kaptor curve shank

Bought some of these off flea bay in a clearance sale and they look very good but my concern is to say they are sharp is an understatement but also leads me to wonder if they are maybe to sharp giving the gravel and boulders on the Trent possibly blunting the hook points, has anybody any feelings on this.

Yes.

I sharpen my hooks and I re-sharpen hooks too. A lesson learnt from fly fishing.

If you make the points really fine and long then you usually only get one use out of them. Bumping them around on the bottom of a river sounds a bit mad to me.

In the carp world you can pay the earth for what are in my opinion over-sharpened hooks……

They've got a fine straight point so they may be prone to the points turning, get yourself a Jewellers Magnifying glass, about £4 off ebay and a hook sharpener and you can resharpen them, if they're not too bad!👍

The points on Korda Kamakuras are incredibly fine!

You might get away with it if they are beaked points

When tied they are quite an aggressive angled hook due to the in turned eye. You could exaggerate that aggressive angle further with a kicker if you wanted. They are not as prone to going blunt as you’d think because of this.
I have a mate that uses thrm for barbel fishing and he doesn’t get many problems with them

My last (10+ years ago) serious carp fishing involved a curve shank hook with a less aggressive in-turn to the eye (carp max), really excellent hooks. Fairly sharp out of the packet, but I do sharpen them. I still have some left.

The Bank tackle version is okay too. And they have plenty of metal -so are great for sharpening (a little!).

Thanks for your replies chaps, to sum your educated comments up they seem seem to be a good hook but make a point of checking the points regularly which I think is a fair assesment
Many thanks.

I too bought loads of these as my favourite the Korda wide gape in size 12 have been discontinued.
I bought them in size 12 and 10 and also the kaptor wide gapes in the same sizes.
Very sharp like the Kamakura hooks.
Just check the point on every cast like I always do anyway.
I've fished 2 sessions so far with these and I'm happy but the point will turn over quickly so keep checking.
Continual casting they will prick the gravel but my local Hants Avon I generally leave a bait out for 2 hours so not quite like the Trent, Wye or Severn.

I use them a lot in a 10 on the tidal Trent and have few issues with the points turning over. Tremendous hook holds so flatten down the barbs, especially if you’re unhooking Bream in the edge as you’ll need forceps a lot otherwise.

Even if the points go they’ve been on offer for £1.50 a pack at Total fishing tackle for months, so I’ve got about 20 packs and keep adding some more on every time I put in an order.

Thanks for that Rob ,think I'm up to twenty packs now lol 👍

I have packets upon packets of these hooks. Never had a problem with losing sharpness even after 2-3 sessions on the same hooklength.

Beautiful hook holds.

I do fish them KD style so quite an aggressive angle.
