I bought this about a year ago from a forum member who prior to the sale told me it needed a bearing. It had been like this since new.
I then replaced both bearings with Japanese abec 7 high quality ones. Since doing this I’ve improved the reel further by removing all the acceptable manufacturers tolerance free play from both the spindle and handles to create a reel that feels like no other zeppelin around.
It is so smooth, free running and solid with zero feelable movement in the vertical and diagonal plane on the spindle and I’ve reduced the vertical play in both handles so there is the minimal amount for them to be operated.
I’ve never come across a bearing pin that feels quite as good since the modification.
Modifications are completely reversible if you wish as it’s just high tolerance engineering shims in stainless steel placed on the spindle and under the handles. 2 minutes to remove them if you want to revert it to normal.
Reel has been extensively used in my position last and this year. It’s caught a hell of alot of barbel and chub well into double figures and it’s been absolutely golden for the job. It’s a float trotting reel only and completely unsuitable for ledgering imo.
I’m Selling it due to one reason and that is I copied a lot of its design into my custom made Garry mills reel which since owning, I haven’t once used this kingpin. Everything brilliant about the kingpin I now have got in my mill tackle reel and this is far too good and valuable to sit around doing nothing. So I’m cashing it in.
It’s in immaculate condition, not a single mark on it, the black n silver was not a common design and it’s a rare reel to find nowadays
Crazy expensive on the website and built like an absolute tank.
You can treat this reel with a more heavy duty hard core type fishing approach than you can other reels and it will take it with ease. Type 3 anodizing also which is stupidly hard and scratch resistant.
