Broken rod tip or fish in your river.......

I often wonder where we are at....I think alot about things in life ?

To be honest in general I often think whether anglers actually care about the environment they fish in...give it a second thought, I don't know?

I honestly find myself shaking my head, not knowing which direction we are going....would it be to easy to be seduced by tackle manufacturers...or be seduced by the comfort of the quality of your local river?

Very insular....

Very damaging...in the end, where ever or when that will be..the end?

For us all....I think...well maybe?

Some anglers care about the environment they fish in, some don't.

Some anglers care about waters outside of those that they frequent, some don't.

Some think deeply about it all, some don't.

Then there are many shades of grey in between the extremes.

No real shock in that.
 
Sorry Lads.....didnt realise I'd posted that :)

Few bevvies after work yesterday and on my way home bumped into someone I hadnt seen for a long time......so went for a few more!

He's an environmentalist and works all over the world and with us both having a few to many it got a bit deep and he just asked the question what would you be doing if there were plenty of fish in your river and I said nothing, be fishing for them...he said that's it anglers should one of the most aware groups in the UK and just because evrything seems OK chances are the ssport will change drastically mainly from flood plain remodelling.

I thought I understood him last night, obviously didnt....to be honest he's a boring git and not the most entertaining of people to have a drink with!

So if anyone understands what I was going on about please explain to me now I'm sober !! :D

Christ, Jason you make more sense when ****ed than sober:p.

What point you've failed to see though is, its hard to fish with a broken rod and one just does not look the part without a vintage Aerial 'pin', complete with the latest landing net and unhooking mat (matching obviously):rolleyes::rolleyes:.

And so long as there are some fish, many will be content cos fewer tends to mean bigger.
If numbers are more important to the angler then they'll simply move onto somewhere more prolific:eek:.

These problems detailed by your friend, though could happen anywhere but in reality will more often than not occur in already urbanised areas, no need to be a genius to work out, that really means Birmingham and south of, more over the southeast.

So in fairness that leaves plenty of unspoilt rivers in Cumbria, Dumfries and Galloway..... Oh and the river Clyde already has barbel stocked and the Annan has a healthy population of chub:rolleyes:, sorted:cool:!!
 
Jason..I think you are definately on the right track with your first post. Some anglers on BFW are very aware of yours and others concerns, but to others, you are hitting your head against a brick wall to try and convince, that is until something happens to downturn their own personal fisheries.
As Jason says in so many words, they will moan a bit but then just move one to where there are some fish left and will not give a damn.
Personally speaking, don't worry about negative responses or what the non-doers think. You know you are correct in highlighting environment issues that affect the welfare and habitat of fish, wildlife and all, and that is what matters.
You will feel better for it than doing nothing like the majority!
 
The best tackle and bait in the world in wasted in a river without fish.:rolleyes:
