In Praise of good service!

It's all too easy these days to get into the rut of complaining about poor service, more so as prices rise and incomes at best don't. So, to buck that trend I'd like to report that Diawa Uk are maintaining standards. I had a recent mishap when for the second time in three weeks stealthy low flying Canada geese took me completely unawares and wiped out my rods. I can tell you that no barbel that swims strips the line from a reel like a Canada goose in full flight and it is testament to the clutch on my reels that smoke was not coming off them. Unfortunately the spool did not fair so well, as the rest, rod and reel hit the deck causing the line clip to spring off as it contacted the gravel upon which I was sitting. Anyway order was eventually restored and I did eventually manage to gather my thoughts. On examination the spool was slightly scratched but the line clip missing in the Trent. A phone call to Diawa service revealed that this is not a replacement item for a castizm, however they had a damaged spool in and removed the line clip from it and sent it to me free of charge.

A big thank you to Diawa and a reminder that there are companies out there who are without making a penny prepared to look after their customers.

Daiwa are excellent…… I’ve had them help me in the past.
They’ll be getting a boat load of mag sealed reels at some point in closed season to service for me.

Must be an embedded culture in Daiwa. Whilst in Australia a few years back a mate had an issue with his top end multiplier and sent it to Daiwa for repair. It came back fixed with a note that it looked like it had been previously opened and had been fitted with counterfeit parts that had failed. Daiwa didn't charge anything to fix it. Another mate sent his Shimano Stella to Shimano for repair as it was well within it's '10 year guarantee` period. They billed him $120 for worn bearings claiming that the guarantee didn't cover 'wear parts'. I don't think Shimano offers such long warranty periods on most reels now.

I always found the service dept in Scotland most helpful on the phone. Broken rod replacements can be expensive but they know its still cheaper than buying a new rod. For all my shimano reels I still use Felindre who are quite brilliant.
