How would you tackle this swim and what bait.

Bonus point if you can guess which river it is.

Bait, black eyed beans, flavoured with nan plau fish sauce and anchovy. Feed 17 beans and wait for 37 minutes. Then a gentle under arm cast, just upstream of the over hang. Rig, combi, size 8 raptor, short shank, wide gap. ESP 12lb sink braid, 1.5 cm, then IQ flurocarbon 12lb, 46 cm. Running lead, 3/8 oz, flat watch type, dimsores. Main line, 12lb Berkley clear, big game sortov stuff. No bite after 24 minutes, move or phone the Samaritans. Got it covered.

Black eyed beans start with slightly savoury taste, but are very good at taking on flavour. Freeze them with the flavour, and add a bit more when you freeze unused stuff after the session. Best to use shop stuff as oil based stuff is not so easily absorbed. Cheap as chips. Only cook for 20-25 mins. stay on the hair/hook better, and deter small fish. Flavour with vanilla, and catch snotie after snotie. Will finish my bottle of Old Empire, and off to bedders. Good night all.

Wait for dark and put a third of a tin on. Then sit and wait for the big run!!!!

If I was you I would sit a little longer until i have successfully crossed a mosquito with a few Barbs and then we would all get a lot more bites. I am just awaiting a little more funding

Well done

Well done to Graham E , Chris S , Alex G.

Yes the Kennet , swim where friend of a friend won a match 2 weeks back with three barb's for 26lbs , One was a 12.10 ...!

Is the 'top' of Upper Benyons Padworth Lane? Or is it Ufton? (where the island is). I fish all these stretches but my sense of direction is shocking!!
I am assuming Graham means Padworth Lane and then walk back to the canal and go down that way?

Neil. Yes Padworth. If you carry on down past where I believe the swim in question is, you come to the famous Aquarium swim.

Ufton is to Ufton Nevert, the level crossing (where the accident was)bit. Upstream from there is the bottom of upper benyons, known as Gudgeon Alley. If you walked about a mile you would eventually come to the swim shown (if I'm correct)

OR even quicker, walk to the bridge below the Thatcham stretch and walk the other bank of the RDAA car park.

Thanks Graham! You will have to give me a guided tour one day! I don't live locally so treck off down there at 5am every Saturday, go and look at a new stretch I haven't fished, get back in the car and go to where I intended to fish (mainly Upper & Lower B's), only to be told by a local that it's fantastic fishing where I just looked but didn't fish! (Burghfield in this case). I walked along the canal and under the bridge looking for the river but apparently I never walked far enough up there to find it. Hey ho!
I have to say, the people I have spoken to whilst fishing have been very friendly and informative, as have the people on here. I was in a local club a couple of seasons ago on the river Mole and it was so 'clicky' I never bothered with it again. So a big thanks to all who have helped, especially with venues/directions (because I have zero sense of direction).

So 'Gudgeon Alley' is Ufton car park, then go back across the road and it's the other side of the bridge? I just call it the 'rain forest' as that's what it looks like when you first walk in there. Must start using 'proper' venue names! I blanked up there but want to give it another go. It's a lovely looking stretch.
