How`s your catchment area doing?

Not sure if this is common knowledge but came across this & it will give info on water quality & management for your river catchment:
http://environment.data.gov.uk/catchment-planning/
You can see a breakdown of which factors may be influencing the quality of a river. I had a look at the local situation & things seem moderate, with plans for upstream improvement in place. I had a view of rivers I knew 40 yrs ago & it`s interesting to see how often `water industry` appears as a problem relating to quality.
Be interesting to see how it compares with local knowledge/experience for you.

Would have been an informative read if I could open them, I just don't seem to be able to open anything from the EA even answers to FOI requests, I reckon they are doing on purpose because I am a nuisance :D

The catchment information has interested me for years since I attended consultative meetings on behalf of a club from the early nineties onwards.
It made sense to gather together those with a vested interest in a catchment, .. inform, then act as one. There was often a regional EA fisheries officer present to advise as well as take flak.
Often found that many anglers weren't particularly interested in indirect threats to the bit of river they fished, ... I always thought that shortsighted,... maybe it was my reports that made their eyes glaze over in 20 seconds!

Always worth asking what exactly there are measuring though. They can't test everything and on occasion at best these things can lull a false sense of security at worse they can push a focus that causes a wood for the trees effect.
