How many 14mm boilies in kilo bag?

Jon Whelan

Morning all,

I am just formulating a boilie for the forthcoming season & trying to quantify costs & quantities of ingredients required.

Does anyone know approx how many standard 14mm boilies make up a kilo bag?

I did once have this figure but I am not too confident in my memory.

For info, trying to loose the likes of pellet & not use cheap bulk binders that carry low soluble flavour/nutritive profile(s). Using top quality ingredients for boilies - a bit of an outlay at first but then it works out cheaper than one thinks!!

Many thanks in advance,

Jon

Is this one of those village fare type competitions, do we win the bag of boilies if we get it right?

I am open to offers! A pound of dry mix, liquid additives & 4 eggs came to approx £5. Using milk proteins, birdfoods, individual fish meals, a binder & low inclusions of oils - looks scrumptious on paper!!

Reason I ask is that I will be prebaiting a small river June onwards baiting a couple handful of boilies here & there for a few weeks. They wont be round, but approx the same mass as a 12-14mm bait. So its either how many handfuls in a kilo bag (how long is a piece of string I know...) or approx how many baits?

I'll be ringing CC Moores later on so if anyone wants to hazard a guess beforehand?

Cheers, Jon

Indeed it is a village fete-type competition. Sitting watching TV with some friends and their children a few months ago I observed Luke, the alien genius "son" of Sarah Jane Smith (former Doctor Who companion), take a quick look at a jarful of gobstoppers at an early 1950s village fete and correctly guess their number in an instant. Cue Luke.

But, but.........would depend on the density of the ingredients, moisture content. Some ingredients are light, some heavy per unit volume, whether you dry them out (again moisture content). So no precise answer.......

Agreed Bob on the amount of variables - its just a general gauge to make buying the more expensive ingredients to a minimum quantity.

Thanks Steve on your quantifications & to Paul for the more holistic info.

Just rang Craig of Trent Baits Nr Nottingham querying their costs (which are pretty good) & he helpfully weighed a sample of 20 freshly made baits which equated to approx 500 baits per kilo. This quantity would marginally increase upon air drying for a small amount of time.

Nice one Steve.

Cheers, Jon

Remember, in rounded figures - yeh sad I know but 'tis close season...assuming spherical ones:
1 x 20mm boilie = 8 x 10mm
1 x 16mm boilie = 4 x 10mm
1 x 14mm boilie = 5 x 10mm
1 x 12mm boilie = 2 x 10mm
1 x 10mm boilie = 1 x 10mm

Absolute values 10mm = 523, 12mm = 904, 14mm = 1436, 16mm = 2144, 20mm = 4188

No wonder bait companies don't like rolling 10mm's or charge extra or both.

I think........
Cheers
Bob
