Hooks for the wealthy

:) I assume £275 for 10 hooks is a misprint as it states that the normal R.R.P. is £3-99.

I wouldn't chance buying a packet just in case.

Tip: try using caviar instead of hemp when bait dropping.

These are great hooks though even if the size 10's (which I use for barbel) are more like a size 6!

The Chairman on Sunday

Contacted the chap selling said Harikari hooks, vis-a-vis buying all he had at the £275 per 10 figure quoted.

Got a reply from him about some misplaced decimal point.

"No matter" [I replied] "I'll have them at the original price as my charity, Fishing For A Few, will be buying them...".

As ever,

What ones were they Chris?

Just ordinary G points, not the extra strong.

Baring in mind he is using heavy braid and fishing locked up ,real power stuff and never had one straighten.

Personally ,I use our mobs S5 Barbless, have done for two seasons now ,and they were developed by John Walsh River Carping in France and will stop a train,or even the odd Barb.

I Have always been dubious about the claim that the most serious 'heavey metal' in hook terms is required when fishing locked up. All the fish can do in those circumstances is thrash around a bit...seems to me it's when they have been allowed to build up a head of speed and THEN you have to stop them in their tracks that the fun starts:D:D:D

Mind you, if Mr. Walsh has developed a hook to stop big French river carp...then they are SERIOUS hooks :D

Cheers, Dave.

Well John, loves his French River Carping, and thats pretty hardcore.
I have seen similar hooks to the S5,but they dont have the seamless eyes, which I think is a brilliant move.

I did manage to get a size 2 barbed in my little finger up to the bend the other night river carping right at the start of my session, goodness knows how it came out ,but I thought brute force and ignorance would win the day,and quickly:D

Nearly all my summer barbelling is with the 12s barbless, the shape works really well with hooking on knotless set up.

Hi Chris,
I like the S5 but find the eye a little on the small side, much the same as most hooks that size, when trying to tie a knotless rig. I tend to use a short length of braid for the hooklength but encounter a the same problem when using fluoro of mono, tend to use 10lb BS on hooklength.

Hi Stuart,
That's a fair comment re size of eye.
If I am down the Wye ,8 or 10lb mono is usually alright for feeder fishing, and if I am down the Ouse or similar using very concealed rigs,my favourites are 15lb Pallatrax Steam link stripped back or Drennan Sinkbraid in short lengths, usually rubbed in Krysten Tungsten putty or with small blobs of same on .
