hooks again ! Korda Krank ?

Gerry Giles

Senior Member & Supporter
I was moochin in the tackle shop as you do and saw some Korda Krank hooks they really do look the mutts nuts !!
I see they do the normal Korda Krank but they also do some Korda Krank X that are a thicker gauge wire for heavier duty work so has anyone been using them and can give some feedback ?

Hi men ,

Used them originally , but then swapped to the X just for a bit of security , nice wide gape that I'm sure suit the way barbel feed . Sue had a lovely fish from the Warm Avon first time we used them in a very tight swim even for her , and it was tested in a proper fight . Sadly this was in a time where she was fishing less and less , but we used them for a while .

Nash claw Barbless for me at the moment
Swapped to them on a recommendation late this summer and they’ve been unreal. Hell of a hook. Crazy sharp. Great on gravel With the curved point and wide gape and more importantly they hang on to whatever they hook better than anything else I’ve used. I’ve used lots of hooks in the past for barbel and to date these are my Personal favourite simply because they are far less prone to hook pulls than the conventional shape. I think the angular shape might be questionable for some traditionalists but trust me they are an awesome hook and the theory behind the shape seems to work. I’ve only lost one fish so far on them this season and every take has resulted in a positive self hooking.
Highly recommended barbel hook

CAN OF WORMS !

Mate I would never use barbless hooks ever again

I KNOW it causes more damage to a fishes mouth than micro barbed hooks its now been proven on so many waters
now I realise this is a Barbel forum but I have 55 years of carp fishing under my belt despite what people may or may not think about carp fishing a fish is a fish as far as Im concerned I love em all !!
so lets see some evidence Cemex was one of if not THE biggest ticket with the most waters in the UK and a few years ago they BANNED barbed hooks from all of their waters
but it soon became evident that there was a massive increase in damaged to the fishes mouth ! not sure exactly how long 2 maybe 3 years they then REVERSED the rule and banned barbless hooks

not only this but in France where people invest massive amounts on Pay lakes they too are now banning barbless hooks due to mouth damage and remember these fish are getting caught week in week out all thru the year so it can easily show up

YES clearly removing a barbed hook incorrectly can cause damage but the REAL truth is micro barbed hooks are a very long way from the old horrible big barbed hooks of yesterday
and the microbarb is very very easily removed but just enough to stop the hook moving around and slashing the mouth or worse falling out and rehooking
years ago there was an argument because of the large barbs but not anymore

I have recently been having problems with Korum Specialist hooks, points turning over after only a few casts. So looked for a new supplier. Now using wide gaped hooks from Banktackle.co.uk. so far very impressed.

Just visited banktackle, and spent a small fortune:mad: Ordered the wide gapes in all sizes amongst other things, prices seemed low overall.
Free postage too as an added bonus.

Thanks for that;)😁

That’s ok Gerry calm down. My post certainly wasn’t intending to crack open the barb vs barbless debate I was just telling you which hooks I like personally incase you or others want to try. FYI the Nash claw is available in micro barbed too for those who like a barb. Personally I’ve always used barbless hooks for the simple fact that if I’m unfortunate enough to get snagged and broken off I am a lot more confident in the hook falling out, completely freeing the fish from all tackle. I have looked at arguments for and against and understand fully what they can and can’t do. A barbless hook can come out and re hook during a fight which is never good I understand that. but I’m of the belief that a good angler keeping a tight line can mostly avoid this. Anyway it’s not important and don’t wanna change the threads direction. It was more a “I like these” type of post. ;)

Well said, barbed v barbless should be another thread,

Back to the OP's question: used original krank hooks and found them bendy, partly straightening on occasions. Nice pattern and although I haven't tried the x version I would do if I run out of ESP Raptors.

Thankyou Nicholas, this is just what I was hoping for a response from someone thats actually used them big smile

not about well I use this and that hook that I probably have already got or used

maybe I should of said I have used Raptors ,Sticky Sharp ,Bank tackle ,Esp, Fox, Nash Gardner Solar Gamakatsu Drennan Ashima Partridge in most patterns to name a few I can quickly remember 🤔 😂😂

Christ...... Chip on shoulder........
I was only joining in on the thread Gerry with the general hook theme saying I’ve started using a hook that I’ve found to be very good.

The Krank is quite a popular hook in the carp world so if its good enough for them its good for me , i would have thought any failings re strength would have been found out by now as theve been out for a few years now

Your reaction to my harmless hook recommendation post, your use of capital letters to elaborate a point that I didn’t actually disagree with and your little jab to suggest mine and other hook recommendation posts are wasted on you because you’ve tried them all in your 55 year carp fishing career suggests to me that there is a little bit of over reaction there Gerry and I disagree with both those statements.

Hi men ,

It's the way of threads, where the topic ebbs and flows on and off the original subject 🙂 , and nobody is going to fallout over a hook 😉.
